1. Well, I'm wrong. A convicted felon can run and become President of the United States.

Damn.

We need to amend the Constitution again. You can't run if you are over the age of 70. Have committed a felony. Committed Treason. Convicted of Fraud.
And are a real estate developer, or work in the field of real estate, banking, television, or film. Also, you have to pass a critical thinking exam and be able to speak more than one language.

2. I'm ignoring what is happening in the Middle East. I can't do anything about it, so why should I pay attention to it? I have opinions, but they aren't worth sharing, and since it doesn't directly affect me - I shouldn't share them.

My brother's friend's friends are most likely doomed. We don't know. Bro doesn't know.

Mother felt the need to check the situation constantly on the news - while I was visiting. So, alas, I know more than I want to. Mother is a news junkie - she tapes the PBS News Hour, ABC National News, and checks CNN (also FOX - to better understand her crazy-ass conservative Republican pals mindset). I was raised by my parents to get along with conservative Republicans (mainly by not talking to them about politics or anything remotely political and I don't, otherwise I would not have survived Kansas or even Colorado Springs for that matter, let alone various insane work environments.)

3. Niece didn't get the job in New Mexico, but is kind of relieved. It's bit too old for her - and at 19, she's not quite ready for that level of responsibility yet. She's excited about the ski-lift job at Mount Hood. She's staying in the hotel from the Shining, apparently. It's in Oregon.

After camping out of her car in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, she drove back to California and is staying with a friend of her mother's in LA. She'll leave her car at her mother's friend's house, and fly home for about a week or two in November. Then fly back out to drive up to Oregon. Mother is thinking bro and sisinlaw may fly out to Oregon to spend Christmas out there with their daughter.

[I'm spending it here (work is insane - I can't get it off) - it will be my first Christmas in NYC since the pandemic. I'm thinking of dragging Wales to the Christmas Tree in Rockerfeller Center, and going ice skating. Mother says I should go see the Rockettes - except I don't like the Rockettes. I'm hoping for a White Christmas. Oh, well maybe I'll go to Hawaii or somewhere in February.]

4. Workplace conversations.

I walk into the bathroom, FM and Babs are chatting.

Babs: I really think I need bullet proof glass.
Me: Are you in trouble or something?
FM bursts out laughing, so does Babs.
And I stand there puzzled.

Turns out they were discussing a safety project of FM's. And her issues with it.

PC and Gabe are chatting. I walk up to them, mainly to find out what happened to cubicle aisle mate - who had disappeared. (The latest in a long line of cubicle aisle mates.)

PC: now the pilot, or some guy who was with the pilot's flipped the switch - putting 81 people in danger, they tackled him to the ground and -
Me: Uhm, excuse me - but what happened to Pat, the guy in the cubicle across from me?
Gabe: Pat? I don't know names.
Me: The guy in the cubicle at the bottom of the row opposite mine?
Gabe': Oh he went back to the mail room. He's not with us any longer.
ME: Ah. Well he was miserable.
PC: then they managed to arrest him - and he's on thirty-some counts...
Me: Okay what?
PC: Some guy tried to take down a plane -
Me: Oh I was just on a plane, I'd rather not -
Gabe: don't tell JD, he's afraid of flying, although he is on a cruise at the moment, so won't care. Went out of NY. (All my co-worker's do cruises. When I mentioned trying to do a cruise to Wales, she reminded me of this - 'do you really want to travel with your co-workers?' She has a point. No, I do not.)
ME: What plane?
PC: Jetblue, probably.

I mention this conversation to mother when I get home.

Mother: That wasn't Jetblue. It was Alaska Airlines or something like that.
Me: So you know about this?
Mother: Yes, it happened a day or so ago, was mentioned on the news. A understudy pilot who was in the jump seat in the pilot's compartment, tried to crash the plane. It was on its way to California. He tried to shut off all the equipment. They stopped him. The co-pilot tackled him to the ground and they put him the back of the plane. Made an emergency landing in Oregon and arrested him. He's facing 81 counts of attempted murder - for all the people who were on the plane.
ME: Whoa. I'm glad I'm not taking a flight soon.
Mother: It was weird, but isolated.
Me: Do you know why?
Mother: they didn't say, but it wasn't a terrorist attack, it was just some pilot.

I've been so busy lately, that I barely talk to my co-workers. And when I do, they befuddle me.

5. Almost finished with Slayers: A Buffyverse Story - and, well, it's better than I expected. Benson and Golden do a decent job of exploring all of the characters more or less equally. The female characters get the most exploration, although they do a good job of exploring Spike and Clem. And we get more development of Clem than we'd gotten previously.

There's an obvious mislead about Spike, at least I think it is a mislead. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. The difficulty I had with the Buffyverse is the writers kept trying to convince me that Spike was going to betray everyone and turn bad - but after about the second time, I thought seriously, guys? I know that's not where you are going. I mean it was obvious.

Obvious plot twists annoy me. It's lazy writing.

Friend of mine was convinced Spike would turn bad in End of Days out of jealousy, and I thought, no, doesn't work. That's a huge mislead. Goes against the story/character thread they've been building. He argued it. I was right. He was disappointed.

The actors are really good in these roles - I agree with Marsters, they were all perfectly cast. Although, I think the weak link is still Chase. She's not bad, but the others are so much better. Emma Caulfield is amazing as is Amber Benson.

It is fun. I'm not taking it too seriously - because honestly everything post Angel S5 is fanfic.

What's amusing to me is there are still folks out there hoping for Buffy/Angel reunion or them finally getting together canonically. Eh, not happening. Nor is Angel ever shanshuing. (Connor was his Shanshu - that was decided in Angel S5, after they discovered the show was cancelled and everything had to be wrapped up. Also Whedon et company hated the Shanshu Prophecy, which was Greenwalt's idea. It was nixed once Greenwalt left. That series was retconned in S4 in a huge way. )

The problem with investing in serialized stories and characters, is the writers are evil and get bored. They seldom go where you want them to, and often change writers in midstream. You kind of have to be prepared to go with the flow...and see it all as published fanfic.

****

Off to bed. Super didn't install new fire alarm, which I'm okay with. Although if I die in a fire - you know who to blame. ;-)

Leaving with a picture from Hilton Head, at sunset...
