New Year's...

Been Binge-watching S2 of Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. I fell asleep during the first four episodes this morning. Coughed, hacked, and woke myself up. So took a walk, got groceries, came home, and started binging it again.

My blood sugar got really high the past two months - due to a tendency to eat too much chocolate, not to mention pie and ice cream (also deserts after dinner). Also work stress. It's not astronomical - it got to a 7.1 ACI, and 300 over the weekend. I got it down to 90. But for a bit, I was concerned since it was hovering around 200 for most of this morning, and yesterday was between 150 and 250. I had cinnamon tea, and a salad and some nuts for lunch, with apple cider vinegar, also for a snack? Yogurt.
And more exercise - lifting weights in front of the television, and doing squats.

Mother called with bad news. My brother & sisinlaw went to visit J in Rhode Island over the holidays for about one day, they avoided doing it for New Years, due to the fact that they were having a lot of people over and because my niece was coming to visit them next week. Well, J's girlfriend tested positive for COVID the day after they left, she was feeling under the weather (tired and with a sore throat) when they arrived, but in denial. Took the test finally and it was COVID. Sis-in-law is sick now, with COVID. My brother is isolating himself, and my niece had to cancel her trip to visit them.

Sigh. I'm furious with J and his girlfriend on their behalf.

Meanwhile Mother's Mean Girlfriend got attacked by her nephew's bulldog, causing her to fall and fracture her arm, and it took a while to get the dog off of her.

Ugh.

My New Year's so far is uneventful. I'm just watching television shows, and exercising.

What is it with bulldogs at the moment? My cousin's husband got bitten by his on Christmas Day.

Nice tree topper! And yes, at this time of year in any gathering I think it should be assumed someone is going to be ill. It's a shame people can't be more considerate.

Your story about the bulldog made me think that this must happen a lot. An aunt of mine broke her collarbone after being jumped on by a niece's dog. The combination of poor balance and osteoporosis is a bad one.

I hope your brother stays healthy and your sister-in-law recovers quickly.

Why are people so inconsiderate? It's infuriating. And scary.

Oh man, that sucks for your brother and SIL. After all this time, you think people would try to be more careful when they're sick, but apparently not. I hope your SIL feels better soon and your brother manages to avoid it.

Wow, I didn't realize that many people had issues with bulldogs. Pitbulls - I kind of expect it, but bulldogs. Actually come to think of it, a while back, someone was walking their bulldog on the street and the dog got excited when I walked by and leapt up on my legs. I just stopped and looked him in the eyes, and he backed down and she pulled him off me.

But, I think if they are young and not trained well - they can be problematic?

I do too. The worst part is my niece couldn't come home and visit. She'd not been back for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and was hoping to see them and got a cheap flight and everything. But had to cancel.

Thank you. I was talking to co-workers about it. I don't understand why the girlfriend didn't isolate herself until they left? Or wore a mask if she was ill? She may have just been coming down with it and was handwaving it as allergies - which I completely understand. I have them.

You and someone else responded about having bulldogs attack relatives. In this case - she was sitting down. The dog jumped up on her and bit into her thigh. She hollered for help, and it took her brother and nephew about twenty minutes to pry the dogs jaw open and let go of her thigh. The dog broke the skin. She fell on her arm, and has rotator cuff issues, and has bruises on the leg it bit into, and had to get a shot for infection. They offered to have their insurance pay her medical costs, but she refused. (I'd have made them do it - and suggested the dog get trained.)

Freddie's about to turn 3. A couple of days before this incident they had been saying that he'd calmed down a lot from when he was a puppy - I haven't seen that much of Freddie since they don't live nearby, but if the zoomies he got on Christmas Day were anything to go by, well, if that's him being calm I hate to think what a regular day with puppy!Freddie was like.

They need to figure out how to train him - because if he attacks someone else, that's a lawsuit, and well...
