One of my pet peeves is when the Smashed scene is interpreted as Spike beating Buffy down. It was so clearly portrayed as a fight between equals. If anything Spike was taking delight because he could finally fight back after being hit when defenseless. It's such an insult to Buffy's character to treat her as the helpless female and some vewers still do. Society says men shoukdn't hit women because men are the stronger sex. Not really applicable to Buffy!
