Yup, that's why I have mixed feelings. I'd have cast one of the younger Skarsgards. Alexander Skarsgard might have worked, or the guy who played Jaime Lannister.

While RDJ is an actor that I'd pay to watch read the phone book - and if I could afford it, I'd watch in his Broadway show appearance, I'm not sure about this.

I can see why he took the part - it distances him from the Stark role in some respects, and he can chew scenery as the villain behind a mask. Villain roles are always more fun, and a lot less work - the actor isn't holding the movie on their shoulders, nor in every scene, nor doing all the stunts. Plus CGI.

Plus it's a challenge.

But I agree - Marvel must be paying him a lot. And will he really draw in the audience? Maybe, there's a curiosity factor involved. People will be curious to see him in a different role. But there's also the faction who will be disappointed he's not returning as Stark. In a way it would be like Christian Bale or Michael Keaton coming back as say the Joker or Half n Half?
