I hope everyone living in or around LA is okay? I've been seeing the footage on FB from various folks who live out there, and it's bad. And seemingly random, one on side of the street the house burned down and on another, it's fine. Malibu and Pasadena - two beautiful areas, have been attacked by wild fires, as has Modesto.

I have friends in Southern Cal and one of them evacuated when the fires started. They've since returned and their home is ok but have found it very stressful.

Fortunately, LA is a much bigger city than most people think (and LA County is huge). The Palisades fire was 13 miles from my house as the crow flies so we were at no risk. To give you some idea of the winds, we did get fire debris on our front yard blown all that way. The Altadena fire is even further away, so again no direct risk. But there's lots of smoke and ash in the air, so we wear masks if we're going outside for more than a few minutes.

Yes, Nestle has a bad corporate history. I was boycotting them in the 20th Century, now I don't use any of their products - because gluten intolerant and I don't like them.

In the 20th - they were selling baby formula that was causing infant deaths in Africa or something like that? I can't remember. We researched it for a moot UN thing in school - and the country I was assigned was trying to get Nestle banned and sanctions against them.

I'm glad that they are okay. Hope things get better soon.

From what I saw on FB - damn, it looks very stressful.

Thank god, you are okay and not near the fires. I saw on Twitter that LA and LA County are not the same thing, and the whole area hadn't been affected. Malibu and the Palisades and Modesto, appear to be the hardest hit?

I know the Santa Anna winds can be a problem - and often have gusts anywhere from 50-100 mph. A former co-worker told me about them once. He had lived in LA and San Diego, and said the wild-fires had always been to one degree or another a problem - in part due to the winds.

There's so many things to boycott, it's hard to keep track.

I stopped bothering somewhere in the 90s, when I realized it is kind of pointless? It only works if EVERYONE or 80% does it, and that's not happening. It's kind of like the mask thing.
