Okay which first book for Jemisen? There are so many. I've tried "The City We Became", about people becoming part of New York City, and got confused and bored. It was difficult to follow - talk about convoluted world-building.
Kuang - I have Babble on audio. I tried Yellowface, did not finish it (it annoyed me) and I gave it to Wales, who gave it to one of the little libraries in her neighborhood after she finished it. (One book many readers, and only one person who bought it. Score.)
