Yeah, I saw a lot of it in the Buffy fandom, but Twitter/AKA X is worse. I learned early on when it came to fandom to try and find a moderated fan posting board. But be careful of pissing off the moderators. (Easier said than done - it was easy in the Buffy fandom, others are harder.)
Also, use platforms like DW or LJ or Wordpress - where I have control over who sees what, and over who can respond. More importantly who can respond.
Platforms like Instagram (where it's almost impossible to control comments), Twitter, Bluesky, Threads...are dicey.
I think sometimes people forget that there's another person there?
Also a lot of folks use the internet as kind of a punching bag, and/or echo chamber - where they voice their opinion or frustration in the hopes of having it reinforced or echoed back to them. They don't want connection, not real connection, nor do they want to know or understand others - they just to scream into the void and be heard. What they forget is that they are doing this in the middle of Times Square on a huge neon bulletin board, and anyone who strolls by can see it.
