Had a bit of a nightmarish commute home. It usually just takes me about thirty minutes. Today - it took an hour and a half.
Storms blew in around 3 pm and lasted until roughly 5 pm, with temperatures topping off at around 87 degrees with humidity at 80%. And of course that played havoc with the subway system. Outside of the trains, there's no A/C or much air circulation in underground portion of the subway system. And it can get to over 100 degrees in the winter months in the communications rooms.
I managed to get to the R station on Whitehall Street without getting soaked (its a minute walk from the entrance of my workplace to the subway), but once I got down the stairs (and honestly I should have realized there was an issue when folks kept stopping on the trains and so many were leaving the platform) - I discovered after standing around for about ten minutes, that there was a problem. They kept giving us misleading announcements so it took me a while to figure it out. There was a problem at 34 Street, and they'd called the FDNY to investigate, and as a result there were substantial delays on the R and W trains up and downtown.
So, I had a choice - I could either wait on the humid hot platform with the other passengers, which wasn't very wide, and getting crowded, or jump to the uptown platform (also crowded) grab an uptown train - take it to Canal, switch to a downtown R/N, which would skip the stops until it hit Dekalb and hopefully just continue to 4 Ave & 9th, and grab the G or F. I did that, got off first at Cortland thinking I could grab the A/C but saw no signs for them - so jumped back on, and took it to Canal, and after a nerve wracking couple of minutes, found the way to the downtown R/N. (Frigging signage is horrible). I got on the N - and after racing past a few stations, ended up on a bridge going over the river. See photo below - of the view during the storm.

This doesn't look right at all. Per my phone the N should be stopping at Court and then Jay Street Metrotech - not going over a bridge. Standing next to me on the packed train, is an MTA Transit Worker. Wearing MTA Transit Uniform. I turn to her:
ME: Excuse me?
Transit Worker (looks at me with annoyance)
ME: Is the N going over the J line?
Transit Worker: No, this is not the Manhattan Bridge, this is an N. (she scoffs).
Except it's not going over the N - it's going over the Q line to Atlantic Avenue - I figure it out, because that's the next stop. She gets off, I stay on - and then find out the next stop isn't Union or Dekalb like it is supposed to be, but 36th Street. And I'm stuck. The train is packed to the gills. I try my phone to see where 36th street is - but there's no wifi, and worse no subway maps anywhere.
I get off at 36th, and hunt for subway maps - there aren't any. I can't even find a sign telling me where to go for the uptown R? I just go towards the exit, up the steps, and finally, somewhat hidden, find the sign for the downtown R. All the while having stomach cramps and digestive issues. I go down the steps, and after about three minutes, jump on a much less crowded uptown R. And thankfully it takes me to 4th Avenue and 9th Street - although it's information is misleading - since it states that Union Street is where you can catch the G/F not 4th Ave & 9th, but the announcer who you can barely hear states otherwise. Luckily I know the system - so I know that I can catch the G/F at 4th Ave & 9th. But if I didn't? I'd be lost.
They had no interactive subway maps or maps at all. Just updates on when the next train would arrive. And ads. I have to say the signage at 4th Avenue was slightly better than at Canal, Cortland, and 36th Street.
At any rate - I caught a new G train at 4th Ave & 9th. It's a pretty new train but doesn't appear to have as much seating - instead it has more standing room.
Also, it was raining in the Canal and 4th Avenue & 9th St. subway stations - because transit hasn't fixed all the leaks. And they have lots of leaks.
Transit? Do better! Transit is the proverbial thorn in my side. And if it plans on raising fares? It really needs to do better.
If you read that - you got awarded by a picture.

Still keeping abreast of the Buffy Reboot News. They've done more casting.
Seriously as if they don't have enough male characters, they've added one more.
The casting news is not thrilling me. It's very teen supernatural boilerplate casting. (Yes, I've seen one too many teen supernatural soap operas in my lifetime, sorry to say. Only a handful are any good. The most innovative of them was actually Shadow and Bone based on the books.)

Buffy Reboot ads another casting member and names the new slayer
We may not know the title of Hulu’s upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, but we do know the name of the newest Slayer. As part of the announcement on Wednesday that Kingston Vernes had joined the Buffy reboot’s pilot, Deadline also revealed the name of Ryan Kiera Armstrong’s new Slayer. Her character, described as an introverted high-school student, is named Nova. Vernes, meanwhile, will play a character named Carson alongside Armstrong’s Nova; he’s described as a Junior Olympian and popular student at New Sunnydale Academy, whom Nova has a crush on and who starts noticing Nova after a life-changing event.
We also know that the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is not expected to be named after Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy Summers, although her character will appear in a mentor role for Nova. In the photos Gellar shared from the table read for the pilot episode, the title of the series was carefully hidden so as not to spoil the title reveal just yet. This could be because the project only has a pilot order at this stage. Hulu has not officially given it the greenlight. However, it wouldn’t entirely be surprising if the series is titled Nova the Vampire Slayer since, up until Deadline‘s report, details surrounding Armstrong’s character have remained under wraps.
The Eternals director Chloé Zhao is directing the Buffy reboot’s pilot, and working closely with Gellar and writing duo Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. Gail Berman, who worked on the original series, is also on board for the reboot and will serve as an executive producer. Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is not involved in the reboot after multiple allegations that were brought against the writer and director in recent years. Although Gellar has shown interest in bringing back characters from the original series, she is the only actor confirmed to reprise their role from the original show. This could, and probably will, change if Hulu gives the project a series order once the pilot has wrapped."

"Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role as Buffy and executive produce the show. Starring alongside her, Armstrong and Vernes will be a variety of actors, both established and up-and-coming, and small snippets have been released about some of their characters as well. Faly Rakotohavana will play Hugo, a privileged but likable nerd type; Ava Jean will play a "chronic do-gooder" called Larkin; Sarah Bock will play a devout churchgoer named Gracie; Daniel di Tomasso will play Nova's single father, and Jack Cutmore-Scott will play one of Nova's high school teachers.
The show has an all-female creative team behind it. In addition to Gellar executive producing, Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao will direct the pilot, and Nora and Lilla Zuckerman will serve as writers. Joss Whedon, the creator and showunner of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is not involved. He was accused of toxic behavior on the set of the original by some of its female stars.
It's still early days for the Buffy reboot and no returning actors have been announced yet, apart from Gellar herself, of course. Fans will just have to wait and see."
I don't know about anyone else? But I'm taking a wait and see approach.

I'm cranky partly due to the weather, and work frustrations. Taking tomorrow off - because we're finally getting a nice weekend. I'll do laundry tomorrow as opposed to tonight - when I'm cranky. I don't like doing it late - since there are folks living in the basement apartment and I like to be considerate of them, even if others aren't.
