The foreign exchange program we did - for one summer was the cheapest we could find - and it worked because we host a student first, and they didn't pay the families like the others. So it was just plane fare. I thought it would work as immersive - but I went to the wrong place for it to work, etc.
That was the only immersive program that was offered at my school or I knew about. And we only knew about it - because the teacher had a special relationship with the program, and had gone on it herself. She was planning on taking us to Quebec for a week for an immersive program - but it fell through - we couldn't afford it.
In college - I didn't know of anything. Taking French in college was a horrible experience - so horrible - I never bothered with languages again. I was pretty much advised that I couldn't learn it and to give up. Also it was taking up precious credit hours - I had a block plan - where we took one class at a time. And had to bid for each class - with points. We got say 100 points each semester to bid on classes - and the highest bidders got into each class, if you didn't bid enough points on a class - you didn't get in. It helped with class size - but it's why I ended up becoming an English Lit Major - the poli-sci/history course per-requisites - and you needed them to take higher level courses were close to impossible to get into.
