Mar. 27th, 2026 09:37 pmAnother day, another dollar - or several dollars - hence the reason I got up at 6 am, got on the subway around 7 am, and lugged my sorry old ass to the tip of Manhattan and the eighteenth floor of a steel and glass building to work. My thirty-odd years in NYC has resulted in jumping between all sorts of office buildings and in just about every borough but Staten Island. (Which is good thing, because I'm not entirely sure how I'd commute to Staten Island from where I live?) I finally made into an office with a window and a few, and some semblance of privacy, it's still a cubicle - but at least it's a nice one.
Political Interactions on Threads or social media (that is not Dreamwidth), which is why I'm rarely on Threads? It makes me wish there were a lot more Darwin Awards.
1.) President T stated today "that he doesn't understand why the UK didn't give us that island, what's it called? Oh, Ireland. How Dare They! It should be ours!"
Irish posters: Ireland, here? WTF?
Decent Americans who did not vote for President T and keep wishing he'd just go away: Trust us, we're right there with you. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about it? He can't keep Iceland, Ireland, and Greenland straight and keeps getting them confused. This happens every two weeks.
Ireland has decided to boycott the World Cup that is taking place in the US now in retaliation.
[As an aside? Apparently a basic understanding of US history is not a requirement for becoming President of the US? You'd think at least a history of real estate dealings? Maybe it's just UFO history they felt the need to tell him about? Damn those civic classes for misleading me on that. Because anyone who has studied history - would know that the UK didn't gift the US anything? The US fought two Wars for the territory it got. The Lousiana Purchase was France. The US attempted to acquire Canada, but backed off - because it was outgunned and couldn't afford to go to war over it again, wars being bloody expensive and all that. This is all very ironic considering this year is the Tricentennial or the US's 250th Birthday - of declaring independence from Great Britan. There are days that I wish we hadn't. That's why there's all these activities in the fall or supposed to be, we'll see what happens with that little problem with our Federal Govt in DC.]
[Actually I think this happened? And isn't satire? Which sigh. I'll never forgive the Republican Party for this.]
2. candyhimen (yes, that was the individual's posting name - I didn't make it up): Can someone explain, without being rude or bringing up Trump, why the Democrats are against Voter ID?
Everyone: We're/They're not against Voter ID. We already have it. That's why you have to register to vote and bring in your registration, and sing in at the booth and get your voting forms prior to voting. We've always had voter ID. The Safe Act isn't voter Id - it is an extreme measure that insists you provide proof of your legal name and birth such as a birth certificate, which is hard for everyone to get and expensive, a marriage certificate proving your name has been legally changed (if you got married). It's a discriminatory law that is similar to the laws enacted by Germany during the 1930s and 40s for well the same reasons to discriminate and suppress voting.
About 100 people informed this nitwit. I'd say I felt sorry for them? But seriously, they brought it on themselves. The internet doesn't have a lot of patience for idiotic political questions at the moment. Particularly since everyone and their dog has posted on the Safe Act and informed everyone what it means for about two years now.
Shower. Bed. I'll write more another day, hopefully not about politics.
