I think power, despite the fact that it has always been used to control others, is strongest when it's given away. That's what Buffy learned, and how it works in the real world. Sharing power in a relationship is very difficult, though, since it's natural to want to be in charge. One of the interesting things about the Bliss books is that both Vicki and John had a difficult time trusting the other enough to be together, and to give up some power to the other. Giving up power can make you vulnerable, after all, but it also was a sign of trust and acceptance for the two characters.
