gakked this from [livejournal.com profile] superplin - almost stole the whole post because it is very close to how I feel about the meme. Yep - doing it for the hell of it. And while I blow off time waiting for Wales to show up for New Years. Around 7ish. At 6:30, I'll put out the appetizers (because I cannot spell the other word for it and am too lazy to look it up since it would involve taking the lap-top off my lap, going to my desk, grabbing my dictionary and coming back again). Have quite the little feast in mind. This is part of my New Year's resolution to start entertaining people in my apartment more and going out to eat less. Will resolve the whole I can't eat half this menu problem.

Tried to do the random question meme but well, too many questions are non-applicable. So playing with this instead.

Below are the shows I watch regularly/am familiar enough with that I could probably answer the questions. To be honest? I'm only really familar with one fandom: BTVS/ATS. I've never joined another. The most I know about the other fandoms is via people on my correspondence list. Also, the only show I ever really got emotionally invested in was BTVS/ATS. So, the other's are more...weird-ass fun for me, if that makes sense.

Lost
Farscape
Veronica Mars
Grey's Anatomy
Desperate Housewives
Gilmore Girls
BattleStar Galatica
Nip/Tuck
The L Word
Buffy (BTVS)
Angel
The West Wing
House (although can't imagine doing this for House - House doesn't really work with those questions)
(forgot to add): Firefly.

*I'll give my answers to whichever one's you are curious about tomorrow.

Hee. West Wing first.

Tell me of a fandom you know I know of and I'll tell you:
1. The first character I fell in love with: Leo McGarry - I'm a diehard John Spencer fan, loved him since he played Mullaney on LA LAw, and yes, grieved his loss terribly.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: hard one, I think it would probably be Alan Alda's character, recently introduced. An early character? CJ, who has become my favorite character on the series.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Toby
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Alan Alda's character, who I'm secretly rooting for...yes, it's odd I know, but he's wonderful, particularly if you ever saw Alda's Hawkeye Pierce.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: President Jed Bartlett
6. The character I would shag anytime:Josh or Sam
7. The character I'd want to be like: CJ
8. The character I'd slap: Toby
9. A pairing that I love: Josh and Donna, also CJ and the reporter guy who used to be on Thirtysomething (they were hot)
10. A pairing that I despise: don't really despise any of them to be honest. All worked for me. And I missed a good portion of the two seasons it was opposite Angel, so there were a few pairings I didn't really see like CJ and Mark Harmon's character.

Nip/Tuck

Tell me of a fandom you know I know of and I'll tell you:
1. The first character I fell in love with:Christian Troy
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Scean McNamara
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: hmmm...hard one, I'd say maybe Kimber? She always got on my nerves.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Julia
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Matt (the son)
6. The character I would shag anytime: hee, Christian Troy
7. The character I'd want to be like: none of them, they are all so screwed up. Although I wouldn't mind being like Roma Maffia's anesthieologist (sp?), she's so centered.
8. The character I'd slap: Matt
9. A pairing that I love: Christian and Scean
10. A pairing that I despise: hard, not really any. I'd say maybe Christian and Kimber, although for a while they seemed perfect..

This is going to be hard, since not emotionally invested and love all the characters...one of those shows I can't really find anyone I don't like.

FANDOM MEME:

Tell me of a fandom you know I know of and I'll tell you:
1. The first character I fell in love with: Christina
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Alex
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Dr. McDreamy or Dr. Sheppard?
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Alex and possibly McDreamy's wife. Actually it may be the wife. I find her oddly interesting.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Uhm...hard, thinking.
Maybe Izzy who is currently grating on my nerves.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Burke - Isiah Washington is hot. Also have a fondness for George.
7. The character I'd want to be like: if I could combine Christina and George
8. The character I'd slap: Izzy
9. A pairing that I love: Christina and Burke (also somewhat fond of Izzy and Alex, and the nurse and George)
10. A pairing that I despise: Meredith and McDreamy (This pairing is a bit like B/A for me, the two characters are far more interesting to me apart than together. I like both of them, but I find them more interesting in some respects apart. )

Curious, what were yours?

(I only ask because your Veronica Mars answers and BTVS answers were very close to mine. Not exact on BTVS. But frighteningly close on VM. In fact I found myself nodding to almost all your answers on the VM thread in your journal - yep, yep.)

Heh, I'm in the same boat as you, in that I just enjoy the show without being wrapped up emotionally. Which is my favorite way to watch TV: I live in fear of falling into another fandom, frankly. I love it, but it's kind of traumatizing. Not to mention how much time it takes.

So, hmm, my answers on Grey's...

1. The first character I fell in love with: I like all of them! Um, maybe Miranda (aka "the Nazi"), but could be Christina.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: George
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Alex (from what I've seen, not that many people dig Sheppard)
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Meredith (although I agree she's a lot less interesting together with Derek). I agree that the wife is interesting as a character, but I still don't like her. Heh.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: None. I'm very consistent this way. ;>
6. The character I would shag anytime: Burke is hot, but despite my better instincts I do find Patrick Dempsey very hot. And I'm with you: I have a burgeoning crush on George.
7. The character I'd want to be like: Miranda/Nazi, absolutely
8. The character I'd slap: Yeah, probably Izzy. Also Alex, and Meredith. Hmm, I think my so-called bulletproof kink may be shows where everyone screws up regularly.
9. A pairing that I love: Definitely Christina and Burke, hands down. I love them together.
10. A pairing that I despise: Yeah, I don't know if "despise" is really the right word, but Meredith and McDreamy are the most boring of the couples. Then again, just like with B/A, I can sort of get interested in it just because I like Meredith and she wants it so much.

I only ask because your Veronica Mars answers and BTVS answers were very close to mine. Not exact on BTVS. But frighteningly close on VM. In fact I found myself nodding to almost all your answers on the VM thread in your journal - yep, yep.
Well, in case nobody else goes there, consider yourself tagged for BtVS as well, 'cause I'm curious. As for VM, hee. I can be your official spokesperson, so you can dedicate your time to weightier matters. ;>

Oh God I LOVED CJ and Mark Harmon's character, when I read that I just remembered again how much I adored his character and the very beginnings of a relationship they had together *getting teary*
but of course I love CJ w/the reporter guy too...she is a great character.

And I really agree about Jed Bartlett, although I love the First Lady just as much as ever.

Since I've recently become addicted to this show (had to wait for the DVD's -- only have basic cable), I'll ask about Battlestar Galactica.

And happy new year!

Not a problem. Yes agreed. I adore the First Lady, especially when she slaps Jed upside the head. Heh!

Happy new year!

Okay...here's BTVS

I live in fear of falling into another fandom, frankly. I love it, but it's kind of traumatizing. Not to mention how much time it takes.

Me too! I've almost fallen into three, but holding steady, so far.

Agree with you on the Nazi - I fell for right or at the same time as Christina. Both are wonderfully snarky characters. Oh, Meredith may actually be one of the characters I enjoy that everyone else hates...I actually like her and, I actually like her voice overs. I know they are sappy, but I like the sappy. There's no one in this show that I dislike.

Hee. Here's BTVS... this is a hard one, because I started watching in 1997 and well have changed a great deal since then. So..hmmm..thinking back...

1. The first character I fell in love with: hard one, I started watching the show for Anthony Stewart Head - so I'm tempted to say Giles, but to be honest, I was disappointed with his appearance in the show so - will have to say Angel. Shocking I know. But the first season - way back when, I watched for the cute mysterious hunk in the shadows.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Buffy ( which is also weird, because I went into the show skeptical - was *not* a SMG fan, had seen her in other things and found her annoying. But her performance as Buffy surprised me and tore at me. I remember thinking somewhere in Season two - how watching her broke my heart. In some odd way I can't describe I
identified.)
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Hard one - tempted to say Wood or Andrew - but not sure everyone loves those two? Know quite a few people who despise them. This is hard. Cordelia. I liked her better in Angel than BTVS, mostly due to my own issues - she reminded me of girls I knew in high school. Find myself liking her more now.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Dawn (always enjoyed Dawn, may be one of the few people out there who liked Dawn. Even when she was at her most annoying). Another one - was Riley. Yes, I liked Riley in Season 4.
Didn't like him in S6, but that was partly due to my own issues, once I got past them, I liked him again. A third? Anya. And, well, I liked Glory and Ben. I know lots of people who despised these characters - thought they were horribly acted, but I found them interesting and entertaining.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Angel - although, he's growing on me again. I lost interest in the character in Season 3 BTVS and Season 3 Angel. But he grew on me again in Season 5 ATS and now, I find myself thinking he's maybe a little more interesting again.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Spike (although Giles/Ripper is a close second. Which is probably consistent since they are basically similar and Giles/Ripper is basically a grown up Spike.)
7. The character I'd want to be like: Buffy - I admired her stamina and courage.
8. The character I'd slap: pretty much all of them at different points. But most definitely Wood and Andrew.
9. A pairing that I love: Buffy/Spike, Xander/Cordelia, Willow/OZ
10. A pairing that I despise: Oddly B/A. I say oddly because when I started watching, I found the idea of them together intriguing, but then it happened and I was bored. Their relationship didn't get interesting for me again until Angel became Angelus. And of course I thought I wanted him to become Angel again - because I thought I wanted B/A together and once again? Boring.
I think you are the first person to put exactly why I found the relationship boring into words. It's odd because Willow/Tara and Xander/Anya didn't bore me and they were happy, nor does Christina/Burke on Grey's. But for some reason - B/A does. I think the characters are too similar somehow, there's not enough friction between them, their dialogue laspes into soliqueys of "I love you," "no, I love you", "I want to die when I kiss you", "oh...I feel so bad about that...I should leave so you can have a happy life" and I think, okay, what's going on with Xander and Cordy, can we get back to them now, please? Because this is just getting redundant. The Zeppo actually summed up my difficulties watching that relationship pretty well in S3.

BTVS is weird. I keep changing my views on the characters. Year to year.

This is actually easier than the others...for some odd reason. Glad you got to see the series finally.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Gaius Baltar although this may be a tie with Starbuck. I fell in love with both and now prefer Starbuck.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Apollo
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Roselin (I like her, but am not in love with the character)
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Apollo
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Can't think of one. I like them all.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Hmmm...hard. In the mini - Gaius.
Now? Apollo, whose grown on me.
7. The character I'd want to be like: Starbuck ( yes, I like tough gals, I'm consistent there at least - CJ, Buffy, Christina, it's a trend).
8. The character I'd slap: Hmmm...several. Six - definitely.
9. A pairing that I love: Starbuck/Apollo and Gaius/Starbuck, also Boomer/Helio, and the Chief/girlChief who I can't remember the name of.
10. A pairing that I despise: Hmmm...I'm not fond of the Apollo/Roselin pairing or the Tigh/Mrs. Tigh. But I wouldn't say despise.

Happy New YEar ...and what are yours?

Happy New Year! Did you get to go dancing?

Just finished drinking a small glass of champagn with a friend. Simple.
But nice. Considering it's raining outside and cold. Not good weather to watch balls drop in. We did see fireworks out my window though.

I did go dancing. And had some champagne. The Embarcadero fire works were on the opposite side of the building from the party, though, so we only got to see the far corner of them.

I'm still fairly new to the show, so naturally my opinions are subject to change as things evolve. The real problem in breaking things down in such a yes/no manner is that everyone is so damn good in terms of the acting work, and the writing work behind it all. Anyway,

1. The first character I fell in love with: I wouldn't call it love so much as fascination, but Six's complexity and the brilliant way Tricia Helfer plays her makes her just squeak to the top of the list. A close second would be Sharon.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: See #1.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: There really isn't anyone here that I don't appreciate, but actually I agree with you that Roslyn is getting just a bit weird at times. I had kind of hoped she wouldn't go down the prophet road so easily.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Do people hate Six? I don't follow any fan groups or discussion boards for the show, so I'm not up on who's up or down with the rest of the fan community.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Are none so far.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Sharon. (No, not Six. She may be fascinating and even possibly misunderstood, but she's still way too devious.)
7. The character I'd want to be like: Adama. Or Starbuck, if I were female.
8. The character I'd slap: Commander Tigh. Sheesh, fella-- they don't have the equivalent of AA in the Galacticaverse? And are you really such a sap that you don't see your wife is a manipulative, enabling creature? (I'm predicting she'll turn out to be a Cylon.)
9. A pairing that I love: Sharon/Helo
10. A pairing that I despise: Tigh and his wife. Yeeee!

Looking forward to the rest of the 2nd season unfolding, although I'll have to get my sister to tape it for me.
