Nothing is stranger in this regard than Trevor Goddard, an actor who pretended to be an Australian (he was British) and so got roles as an Australian on US TV. I used to watch him in JAG and never pegged his accent as wrong, but then Australian accents always sound a bit odd to me in US shows. (I am Australian!)
