Ookay, flist is distracting me today. Some nifty posts. Or rather links.

Here's one everyone should read about the working poor: http://saoba.livejournal.com/137533.html

I post a link to that one due to my conversation yesterday with a heavy set attorney who is leaving his current job to go help manage people's second and third homes, (yes, you read that right THIRD home) while residing in his "second" home. Apparently one home is not enough any more, we have to have a country home and a vacation home. Those poor people who can't afford one home due to the fact that we are buying up all the property? Not our problem. Is it just me or is our society starting to resemble France before the French Revolution?

The post also reminds me how lucky I am. I do know how expensive food is. Healthy food - fresh vegetables, meat, milk, eggs - quite pricey. The cheap stuff - hot dogs, hot dog buns, frozen veggies, canned fruits and veggies, mixes - all with additives that some of us are allergic to, that people can afford. And some people can't even afford those things. And trust me there's nothing more embarrassing than asking for money, regardless of where you are doing the asking. Food and shelter are basic rights. Hmmm. May be making a trip to the goodwill box in my neighborhood shortly.

Another one that hit me is an gardening website - that sells dirt and gloves - has decided to denounce homosexual relationships portrayed on tv as being "wrong" yet for reasons that escape me, does not seem to think this is "gay-bashing" or "bigotry". You can find the whole sorry tale here:

Then there's a couple of nifty new Buffy essays about metaphor and how viewers view television - granted it's nothing most of us, former or recovering Buffy-addicts, haven't seen before, but they do make a few cool comments.

http://elisi.livejournal.com/179224.html (Comes complete with cool graphics)

and this one, entitled "Pilate's Question , with Vampires" (found this one sort of interesting and liked what it said about the viewer's pov as opposed to the writers or characters - it can be applied to more than just analysis of Buffy fandom but other fandoms.)

Then someone posted a pornographic fanfic starring Spike and Buffy's Panties and Spike and Mr. Gordo, which, is , well, interesting. I'll let you hunt the link to that one on your own.

Add to this several book reviews and news reportage.

Me? Doing okay. Seem to be popular this week. Have not one, but three dinner dates set up.
Wed, Thurs, and Friday. And the weather is actually pleasant for a change.

Yes, it's a lovely little essay. Reinforces my own vision of S6 and Restless - which while S6 was underway I was convinced foreshadowed everything that happened that season. It's why I own S4-S7 on DVD and wrote mostly about those seasons, the metaphors were trickier, and I felt what the writers were doing was brilliant and had not been done on TV before. It may not have been as tight plotwise as the earlier seasons, but it was definitely more experimental and innovative.
