Had pretty much the same reaction - the DH series pretty much killed the Buffy series for me (and anything Whedon related), but these comics surprised me. And they actually made the DH series a little more digestible.
They are a bit hard to find though. Apparently they didn't do many printings. I had to pay 4.50 for issue 6.
