Hee. Me as well. I think I was more invested in Spike's journey than really S/B or even Buffy's for that matter, which is sort of interesting. I found his journey more unpredictable and thrilling. I knew where Buffy was going to end up from the first Season, no mystery there. But Spike? Had no clue what they were going to do with him - which was why I ended up on a spoiler board for a while in S6. Because I honestly did not know. They could have taken that character any number of directions - all would have worked. I loved the one they chose and was *very* satisfied by it.
