Heroes...

Okay - favorite and most satisfying season finale right now is Heroes, which managed the impossible - coming up with an unpredictable and satisfying ending, yet managing to keep the story moving forward at the same time. It was as if the first season was the end of one novel. And next season is the beginning of the next novel. I've rarely seen that done on TV - outside of the premium cable networks. I honestly had no clue what they were going to do. Yet as a guy at work stated this morning - the ending made sense. The whole series is like watching a beautifully rendered graphic novel.

Also, they managed to resolve all their characters arcs, taking them to a new and different place from the one in which they had started - difficult to do with 10 characters.

Wish had more time to discuss. Lots to chew on.

Nods. They did a very nice job and the story clipped along at a nice pace. Now the question is who will Kring bring back next Season.

I was so thrilled. I had accidentally been surfing online before the show aired here (after it aired on the East coast) and saw a headline saying it ended with a boom... and I was bummed because
#1 I thought I was spoiled
#2 I thought they would blow up NYC and we would be back at square one in the second season trying to stop that from ever having happened

But no! Kring actually had some things to say about the importance of love of friends & family, he had our heroes actually work together (pretty much for the first time), AND had points to make about the future no being written in stone. I was very happy, I'm still very happy, and I am really looking forward to next year with undiminished joy!

Most of the characters have all kinds of gray area layers with compromised loyalties and morals, but that only means that they can continue to be interesting next year.

Agreed. I was worried it would go the other route - boom, and we'd be back to square one. Shouldn't have - since he already did the what if the world goes boom episode.

No, the way they handled that ending was remarkable. My favorite scenes were the at the end - with Nikki slugging Sylar, Hiro knifing him, Claire taking the gun her father couldn't get and struggling to shoot Peter, and finally Nathan showing up out of the blue and providing the unlooked for way out.

A co-worker asked how come Peter didn't just fly off? I said: 1) probably can't use two powers at once, and 2) he'd lost control of his power.

No, it worked. All the threads converged. Each one of the players helped, but not predictably and not necessarily because they had a stake in it. Nikki helping Peter was an example. As was HRG's assistance.

Loved the themes and loved how the story came together. One of the best season finales I've seen in quite a while. Certainly blew BSG's out of the water. Which I'd never have predicted.
