I don't think that 'thricewise' was any kind of dirty joke, it is a kind of demon (in Joss' first issue of the series it was mentioned by Buffy that she and Giles had both warned Dawn about her boyfriend being a thricewise, but we have still not learned what all this entails besides the giantification thing).
But I agree that BKV's second issue was weaker than his first (I loved his introduction to Faith's arc, and I am willing to over look a weak second issue in the hopes that he really has something to say before he is done).
Brian Lynch's two Spike stories were both drawn by Franco Urro and he'll be drawing Angel: After the Fall too, which I'm thrilled about. I'm expecting big fun. It will be interesting to see how Brian does with a much longer story arc, but of course I know that he has been working on the story w/Joss.
