Crazy Reader's Poll

Have decided purely out of curiousity to see who my readers are, which is admittedly gutsy, because it is more than possible that no one will respond and I'll look silly, which is why I haven't done this type of poll before (I've done plenty of polls, just not about my own journal). Not sure what's worse in internet land, critical responses or no responses at all. At least with the trollish/critical ones, you know people are reading. When you don't get any, you have no clue, there's a limitless number of possibilities.

Please note, the title of my lj is spontaneous musings, so while it is possible that I may honor your requests below, it is also highly unlikely. Than again you never know. There are admittedly a few posts that I still do that I've decided might be unpopular or really turn folks off and am considering discontinuing, so responses below will probably affect that decision to some extent.

just too bad that the Buffy question didn't hold, "Indifferent about the first three seasons, loved the last four" as an option.

Sorry about that, it didn't occur to me. I think for two reasons, I loved all but the first season and I've read far too many online vents critiques of the last four.

I actually thought the second and the third season were ok, while the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh were great. (with some minor flaws)

Though the first one was worse than Firefly.

Though a big part of that might be that most of my enjoyment of the series comes from Spike, and neutral or good guy Spike at that.

Not a fan of Firefly, I take it?

Season one felt as if the writers were finding their way, not sure what they wanted to do or how to do tv. They seemed to be trying episodic and serial, also flirting with romance. From what I've read, Angel was supposed to die in S1, but the character unexpectedly took off and Boreanze unexpectedly improved, impressing the writers enough to develop a more layered tale in S2.
The Master clearly didn't work nor did the Annoited One - or the vampires as ugly monsters bit, so they changed tracks introducing Spike and Dru. I think the episodes of S1 that they took and built on, were the Pack, Nightmares, Angel and Prophecy Girl...which showed the writers that their young cast was capable of a lot more than they thought.

That was a very fun poll, I wasn't sure about the first question: I always read you, and I usually comment, but although I'm in your flist I'm not sure you actually read me.... (but that is cool).

I'm actually interested in everything you write, but I don't comment if I can't think of anything to say....

I suppose I should give Twilight a chance, but I'm feeling like I've got too many fandoms already!

Oh and Dark Knight: I fast forwarded through fully half of Batman Begins and frankly I expect I'll like this one better, but I can wait for the DVD (they come out so quickly now days).

I read your posts. I'm just not online that much, can't go online at work, and only have about an hour every once and a while in the evening. What I usually do is read my lj flist over the weekend, scrolling through all the posts, lingering and reading, sometimes responding. I rarely respond, because more often than not, I've read the post one-five days after it's been posted. I think this may be true of a lot of people, they read or scan flist posts, but don't have time to respond to them. I should ask in a poll to see if it's true.

Not sure if you've noticed, but you actually comment more in my lj than anyone else. I think a lot of my posts I write with you in my head as my audience - which is the result of having responses, you tend to write to whoever is responding to you. I forget about those who don't respond, even if I'm reading their journals. Because often when you write in lj, you don't have time to read others journals..not sure I explained that well.

Re Twilight - flip through it in a bookstore or library. I wouldn't worry about getting fannish about it. The romance is sort of similar to a Buffy/Angel fanfic, except Buffy has no powers and acts like she did when she was under the spell in Halloween. It's basically Romeo and Juliet with fangs, and a happy ending.
(Doesn't sound like your thing, but I could be wrong about that.)

If you didn't like Batman Begins, it's unlikely you'll like the Dark Knight, which is a lot more violent and a lot grimmer.

I haven't seen the Dark Knight yet and although I love Buffy, I'm ambivalent about the last two seasons.

I've actually heard of Twilight, but that's all. I know nothing about it.

Like others, I say the Buffy question could be cut all kinds of ways. Personally I loved the first 4 seasons, and thought the last three were weaker, but not bad.

Yeah, unfortunately there's a limited number of responses you can put in a poll on the Buffy question. People are all over the map on it.
I have friends who adore Season 6 and 7, but don't like any of the other seasons. I have friends who adore 1-6, but hate 7. People who adore 1-5, hate 6 &7, people who hate 1-6, love 7 (yes, odd, but possible), people who love all but 1 (me), people who love all, people love 1-2, etc.
It's like any tv serial or book serial in that way I guess.

I don't disagree with your first statement. Actually I do agree with it, which is why I've resisted doing this and why I don't tend to respond to other's posts on the same topic. But I've gotten curious as to how others are reacting to my posts. It's highly unlikely I'll follow the requests, because I tend to write whatever I damn well please and expect others to do the same, but at the same time...I'm curious.

Re Twilight? Can I join you in your ignorance of Twilight? (Let's just say, it is nice to know that I don't have to worry about using too many adverbs in my writing any more.)

BTW, agree with Cactuswatcher. Put anything you want in your blog, it's your blog. Hell, I post daily cartoons and write strange TV commentary containing ATPo in-jokes in mine. Yours can't be odder than that.

Re Twilight? If only. Because that would be sort of interesting. But alas no. It's a popular teen romance that reads a bit like a Buffy/Angel fanfic circa S2 prior to Angelus, except Buffy looks and sounds exactly like she did in Halloween when she lost her memory and was wearing that pretty dress and Angel is a teenager and there aren't really any metaphors about high school being hell, just romance.

I originally started my LJ because I joined the group writing the MES Angel Season 6 stories. I didn't post much in my journal then because I found that effort kept me very busy, and I wasn't into new fandoms to the passionate extent I was with the Buffyverse, and so didn't feel as compelled to write about them.

However, after a while I felt guilty about my lack of posting, and decided to do something "easy" and post cartoons from my collection. Of course (as usual), it isn't so easy. Most of them are scanned in from old newspaper clippings, and as such require sometimes extensive digital reconditioning with my photo program, a process that can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours per toon.

But, I've always wanted to electronically archive these toons, and this accomplishes that task, albeit rather slowly. Slowly is better than never, though, and hopefully I get to leave my flister's with a chuckle once a day, and that's not bad.

Would agree.

What is interesting to me is that the media keeps talking about how Stephanie Meyer and Twilight are the next JK Rowling. I don't think so. If my poll, which granted only had maybe 20 responses,
is any indication - it does not look like she's going to get the same broad assortment of readers that Rowlings did. Rowlings crossed gender, cultural, and age lines in a way that I'm not sure anyone is going to duplicate any time soon.
Meyer's seems to be attracting a specific group.
