Exactly. I feel much the same way. It's not enjoyable, you can't quite escape into it and leave your worries behind, nor do you want to.
Buffy, Firefly, and Angel - I did escape into, I fell in love with the characters.
I can't quite connect enough to any of these characters to fall in love with them. The one I know the most about at the moment - Topher - is too creepy to fall in love with. Ballard and Boyd - we only have mere sketchs.
I'm still watching and writing about it - because I'm curious. And it is different than anything I've seen on tv since Pushing Daisies. But, I think if the show has any hope of bringing in viewers and staying afloat, it has got to answer some of those questions - such as why Ballard is so obsessed with the Dollhouse and who Caroline is.
