Oh I love this! I saw that other essay linked to on my flist, but couldn't make myself read it. Just... couldn't.
Sadly I have to run, so don't have time to formulate a thinky reply, but I once wrote an essay examining the same issue (although with a different focus) - Metaphors in S6 - if you're interested. (It's quite long, but it's divided into characters so you can just skip the other Scoobies.)
