Vamp Diaries and Secret Circle
Jan. 21st, 2012 04:58 pmHaven't accomplished much today. My Saturdays seem to be days of lazy resting after the non-stop hubbub of the work week - this week found me running to and from trains and meetings. Slept until 9, and lay-about. Now it's almost 6. But rainy and snowy and cold...so not like I could do much of anything anyhow. Will do it all on Sunday.
Did watch Vamp Diaries and The Secret Circle.
Circle has me intrigued again. I'm more interested in what's going on with the parents, and what happened in their back-story, then what's happening with the kids. The character that has me the most intrigued is the egnimatic John Blackwell, who may or may not be a black witch, who may or may not have been trying to get rid of his black magic, who may or may not have been responsible for the other parents death (in this episode most likely not), and who may or may not be dead (from this episode guessing not dead).
I'm also wondering about Thomas Dekker (Adam)'s Dad - Ethan. Did Ethan betray his circle? Was Ethan the reason - the witch-hunters got the drop on them? Did Ethan attempt to kill John Blackwell because he wanted Emily? Much like Adam wants Cassie, but Cassie wants Jake? Was the bad guy really Blackwell or Ethan? Or Charles (Diana's father who almost kills Adam's Dad, only to have Adam's Dad return the favor with the same crystal?) Are the kids following in their parents footsteps?
The teen agnst gets on my nerves, but the parent angle and the mythology keeps me watching. Wasn't disappointed with the back story in this episode - it did not go in the direction I expected. That's the fun thing with soaps - they never go in the direction you think. Logic be damned.
Vamp Diaries was equally fun.
Damon - you sneaky fox, you. He actually found a way to distract Klaus and make Klaus' life more difficult. What better to drive Klaus nuts than the resurrection of an annoyed bro. Hey Klaus, Damon must have been thinking, you so want a Stefan in your life? How about we resurrect Elijah!
How much you want to bet...the fourth coffin contains either Mom or the original Katrina, who are the dopplegangers are based on?
Didn't see the twist about the Doctor coming, will give them that. She's using vamp blood to save lives. About bloody time someone took advantage of the healing properties of vamp blood. Now if they could just harvest Klaus - they'd have a cure for wolf bites for vampires. Elena's blood enables hybridization. Klaus' cures vampires of wolf bites. And vampire blood heals humans.
Nifty.
Oh and apparently all Tyler needs to do to overcome Klaus' compelling him, and control his own urges - is embrace the pain of turning into a werewolf. Once it stops being painful - he'll have free will and be beyond the control of the curse. Nice of Caroline's Daddy to help with this - even at the expense of his own life. They are doing a good job with the guest casting. Once Upon a Time and Vamp Diaries does get some cool actors at times.
I'd say more about Abby/Bonnie tale - but that was the predictable and somewhat soapy weak link.
Bonnie's story unfortunately often is. It's almost too emotionally over-the-top. Also Stefan/Elena - same problem. Too predictable. Too much the trope. So not much to talk about. Will say I liked how Elena addressed Stefan this round. "I'm telling you not because I feel guilty it happened, but because I feel guilty that you don't know." And Stefan: "I shouldn't have kidnapped you and attempted to drive you off the same bridge - that was the step too far." He is right, she does deserve better than either Damon or himself. Both get that. But the heart wants what the heart wants, doesn't it? Or it tends to in these tv shows at any rate. Be sort of boring if Elena wanted Matt - there'd be no conflict. Also Elena and Damon have chemistry to spare - maybe because she keeps resisting. And we know it can't end well. Friction always results in lots of chemistry.
