Jul. 19th, 2009 10:32 pmApparently Harry Potter is outdoing the competiton, with 80 Million in the bank to date, outdoing all the other films in their opening weekends. (Interesting bit of trivia - guess which film made the least money? Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. And the one that has made the most? Will be this one. I find this hilarious, considering the online fans seem to like the third film better than the current one. I haven't seen it yet. I am waiting until maybe August. I might see it with CW or with a meetup group at the IMAX for 16.50. Have not decided yet. I think it would be a cool film to see on IMAX, although tend to generally avoid IMAX for anything that isn't a nature film. The fact people saw the Dark Knight on IMAX - bewilders me. Why would you do that to your poor brain? Although I guess you could say the same thing about Potter, except I doubt it has quite the degree of torture that Dark Knight did.] At any rate, I think Harry Potter may be this year's Dark Knight, while Star Trek is this year's Iron Man. Not surprised by either's performance. It's not like they have much competition. The flicks out this summer have been unappealing to say the least. I'm renting Terminator Salvation Day. I skipped Transformers 2 - after being told it was not as entertaining as the first one. Considering that I almost walked out of the first film, bored, decided not to torture myself with the sequel. Apparently I wasn't the only one who made this decision. And the romcoms? Ick. The comedies? Ick. Whoever decided to wait until this summer to release Harry Potter, knew what they were doing.

Date: 2009-07-20 05:12 pm (UTC)I saw Spiderman 2 in IMAX, sitting too close, and in addition to not liking the movie, I still get a headache just remembering the noise and visual overload....
but my brother & I went to see Star Trek at IMAX anyway, sitting in the BACK this time... and it was still too much, we decided that regular movies are plenty big and loud for us! lol
So today I'm headed off to see the new Harry Potter w/a friend, I've heard it is almost as good as 'Prisoner of Azkaban' (which remains my favorite of the films... but I really liked 'Order of the Phoenix' a lot). In fact I've found all the movies to be rewatchable, which is more than I can say for Dark Knight (I really didn't care for that, most over rated film in years... IMO).
