Echoing fishsanwitt. Wonderful commentary. The part about Giles particularly hit home to me. I've always had trouble with him leaving, and after this I feel I understand his reasoning better.
Having said which, I still like to feel that if he'd realised how dangerously depressed Buffy was, he would have held off leaving for a while.
