Very interesting essay. I do for the most part agree with what you say about the Spike/Buffy relationship. Where I disagree is with what you say about Spike wanting to have power over Buffy - for her to be the slave, as it were, instead of him. I think there is an element of truth in that but given that Buffy's power and strength (not just physical but of character) were a large part of her attraction for Spike, I think his efforts to be the one in control were always somewhat half-hearted. He was at war with himself over his feelings for Buffy in every way.
