Just saw Project Runway All Stars...while there were some really good designs and several of the designers had grown, I disagreed with the judges.

Kato should have won -all four of her outfits were seamless and fit well. No mistakes.
And her restaurant dress was amazing. Granted she was upset about losing, but I sort of think she may have been justified. Daniel only won because they loved his one dress. His bubble skirt's hem was off and the restaurant one, was atrocious. Granted one dress can make you.
But the challenge was to do four designs. It felt contrived or slated towards the dress for the 9 premiere.

While I liked Chris's tweeds. Ulie's restaraunt dress and designs blew Sweet Pea's girly wear out of the water. Did not like. Agreed with the judges on Michael and Santino and Jeffrey - all of which were disappointing.

Most improved were Kato, Ulie, Daniel, and Chris. Everyone else I found to be a bit disappointing and boring. Didn't understand why they brought Sweet Pea back - my guess is they couldn't get the winners from the second and fifth seasons.

In other tv news...very happy about the casting spoiler for the new BSG prequel Caprica.
This looks like a great series. 2010 - with Caprica and Lost is going to have some great sci-fi.

Loving Merlin. Didn't expect to. My mother adores it. Head is good in it. And I like all the characters and the twists on the Merlin/Arthur tales, which I've studied a bit too much in depth.

Also adoring Mad Men - this show just keeps getting better, and the characters more interesting. My brother has managed to get our entire family hooked on it. Although I'm not sure he's still watching. The acting, production value, and writing continue to blow me away on this one. It also has one of the Buffy writers, Marti Noxon, and one of the Angel actors - Vincent Karthesier. And Karthesier is brilliant as the ambitious Pete Campbell. Creepy but intriquing at the same time, hard to pull off. But the best thing about it are two characters - Don Draper and Peggy (played by Elizabeth Moss). So many layers and each season they peel back more. Plus the time period is spot on, my parents keep comenting on how accurate it is to their memories of the time period. Also the heavy themes relating to sexism, paternalism, homophobia and racism are well and consistently expressed.

Still watching Defying Gravity, which reminds me a bit of that James Spader space film with Angela Bassett mixed with Solaris. It's very sci-fi lite and like Grey's is more focused on the character's romantic and sexual relationships than the workplace drama going in the background. The workplace drama should be front and center, the romance in the background - that's why BSG, Trek, and ER worked and why Grey's is falling apart. If you focus too heavily on the romantic relationships you risk becoming a soap opera. (which is okay if that's your intent and the audience you want...but the majority of soap opera fans don't tend to like sci-fi. )

Am behind on The Closer, but did watch Leverage - which is disappointing this season. I think the problem is they've cleaned up or resolved Nate (played by Tim Hutton) problems too soon, and are now focusing on the weaker supporting players such as Sophie and Elliot. Parker and Hardison being used mainly for comic relief. This is a mistake. Nate, Parker, and Hardison are actually the core and the strength of the show. I like Christian Kane and I like Elliot, but his story feels like it lacks something. Almost cliche. Same problem with Gina Bellman's Sophie, who feels a bit one-dimensional and stiff. These characters are more interesting when braced against Nate or the others. Also their back stories are a bit cliche. While Hardison, Parker, and Nate's aren't or not to the same degree.
Last season focused more on the other three and was more interesting, less A-Teamish as a result. I was incredibly bored during this week's episode. Best episodes of the season so far was the kid - they had to do the musical about and the season opener.

I suspect they brought back Sweet Pea because her Bryant Park Fashion Week collection was so surprisingly good. The thing that struck me about Chris' collection was that as they were showing on the runway his was the first that really felt like a couture collection -- one where no one will actually wear the runway version, but there will be all sorts of revised versions. And I have to admit I glared at the judges when they complained that Uli didn't have her brightly colored prints. Were these not the same three who almost convinced Uli she should stop doing what she did so well because it just wasn't 'enough'?

And I agree. I would have given the win to Korto.

I'm still really enjoying 'Leverage', no show is always brilliant, and I'm willing to put up with some ho hum episodes since I'm still loving the premise.

The most recent episode of 'The Closer' was a good one for showing off all of Brenda's worst faults....

Did you see the straight to DVD movie setting up the 'Caprica' story? It was pretty good... I'm definitely looking forward to the show and I was also happy to hear about the casting spoiler.

I'm also enjoying the silliness of 'Warehouse 13' (very light weight but fun).

I completely agree that Korto should've won. Daniel was not nearly as good as the judges were trying to make him out to be. His restaurant dress was atrocious. I felt that Chris had greatly improved and seeing his designs really surprised me. To see his last group of work to this group, it really highlighted how much he had grown.

I've only made it through part one of Defying Gravity. I like it so far but I think I may have trouble staying on top of it's schedule.
