Espenson is much the same way - this story arc did not play to her strengths. She's better at smaller character moments
Very much so, which is why the best moments were all intimate character ones, like Willow talking to Oz and Buffy re-bonding with Xander.
Weird. Your trajectory from the X-Men to BtVS is so similar to mine, apart from Joss's run on X-Men which I have to say I didn't like much.
