But I ganked it from [livejournal.com profile] selenak

Name a TV show series in which you have seen every episode at least twice:

Buffy (although Angel, Farscape, and MASH also fall in there...)

Name a (current) show you can't miss:

Lost when it comes back next month, The Good Wife, Caprica (when it appears), Dollhouse (until it finishes), Supernatural..

Name an actor that would make you more inclined to watch a show:

I'm more inclined to follow writers than actors, but given that I'll check out anything that James Marsters and Anthony Stewart Head appear in regardless of how atrocious the show is...
and ahem, let's face it 99% of Marsters choices have been atrociously bad...will give him this, he does lose himself in roles, I barely recognize him and think, whoa, this is the same actor who played Spike? Okaaay. I'm getting better about that though...I did not check out the Prisoner reprise, even though Ian McKellan was in it.

Name an actor who would make you less likely to watch a show:

None really, if there are enough reasons for me to watch the show otherwise (i.e. premise, writers, other actors, etc.).

Name a show you can, and do, quote from:

Sigh. Buffy. Although not so much anymore. I'm horrid at remembering quotes. Quotes and names. Anything oral - I have no memory of. If I see it, I can remember it. If I write it down, never forgotten. But heard? Forget the next minute.

Name a show you like that no one else enjoys:

"No one" is a bit exaggarated, but sigh...do you want a list?? Hmmm, probably Smallville.

Name a TV show which you've been known to sing the theme song:

First - I don't sing. Second - I can't remember tunes. But that said, Suicide is Painless, you go through so many changes...oh suicide is painless after all...otherwise known as the brilliant theme to MASH. Black absurdist humor, with depth.

Name a show you would recommend everyone to watch:

Current show? I'm with selenak: The Good Wife. Chock full of great female characters, interacting with each other (the men are interesting as well), layered writing and good acting. Dead and gone show? Uh. See mileage differs...but I'd probably recommend Buffy, which continues to this day to be my favorite show of all time.

Name a TV series you own:

Buffy. (And now apparently Farscape...that makes two full tv series. Whoa. Now watch DVD players will go the way of VHS players which is the way of 8 track players...and I'll have to suck it up and get Blue Ray. I hate technology. OR rather I hate the people who feel the need to keep updating it every five seconds. )

What is your favourite episode of your favourite series?

Once More with Feeling from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it has everything I want in a tv show - songs, dance numbers, self-deprecating and at times slyly absurd humor, impossible romance,
horror, and a kick-ass heroine with an attitude.

A show you mean to watch, but you just haven't gotten around to yet:

The Wire.

Ever quit watching a show because it was so bad?

Alas. Heroes. (and several others won't bore you with...) 24 - tried different times, but it gets on my nerves - I don't buy the gimmick - there is no way you can get across LA in two minutes. Also the pro-torture stance and politics bug me. The season with Paul Blackthorne as the villian was by far the most palatable and the best.

Name a show you aren't interested in watching, not in the least:

The Bachelor (ewww) and Real Housewives

Name a show that's made you cry multiple times:

Several. Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Buffy, Battlestar Galatica, Desperate Housewives (weird I know)

Oldest TV show you like?

Kimba - premiered in the 1960s, but it isn't still around. General Hospital (been on since 1970s). Doctor Who? - Not sure that one counts, since unlike General Hospital it doesn't have actors who were actually on it in the 1970s.

Newest TV show you like?

Caprica and The Good Wife.

What do you eat when you watch TV?

Depends on whether I want to loose weight or not.

How often do you watch TV?

I plead the fifth.

Do you have a favorite talk show?

No.

What's the last TV show you watched?

Leverage

What's your favourite/preferred genre of TV?

Sci-Fi/Fantasy, she says defiantly.

What's your least favourite genre of TV?

Game shows, talk shows, and reality tv.

What was the first TV show you were obsessed with?

Kimba. (later ripped off by Disney when they made The Lion King, but hey, they ripped off Hamlet as well, so Kimba was in good company), which I watched as a toddler and invented new stories for. Highly inventive tv show - with lots of room to write and invent own stories. Was rather obsessed. Kimba was my first tv crush. Followed closely thereafter with The Monkees and Davy Jones.

What TV show do you wish you never watched?

Uhm...can't really think of one at the moment.

What's the weirdest show you enjoyed?

Twin Peaks.

What TV show scared you the most?

Again drawing a blank - but probably Rod Serling's Night Gallery and Space 1999 episode about the plant people.

What is the funniest TV show you have ever watched?

MASH - the first season. Also...hmmm, lots of shows.

Which do you think is the best TV series ever made?

First season of BSG, maybe. I don't know. Seen too many. They all have their pluses and minuses.

No they won't. Blu Ray is still seriously lagging on sales, both players and discs. Unless you have a TV with a screen larger than 42" *minimum*, the HD is largely unnoticable compared to ordinary DVD. 50" and up, you can clearly see the diff, and it's more noticable as you get larger still.

What is really going to challenge Blu Ray is downloads via cable and fibre optic hookups to people's homes that can really handle the bandwidth. That'll be about 10 years before it has a really significant presence.

People said the LP record was dead, but it isn't. Many people still like 'em, and people still like DVD. Yes, it will decline, but slowly.

Doctor Who? - Not sure that one counts, since unlike General Hospital it doesn't have actors who were actually on it in the 1970s.

What about Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith)? ;-)

Don't know...do rare guest-starring appearances count?
I think she was in a total of four episodes in the New WHO. And she's the only one from the former versions that I know about.

(Not sure you can count the Sarah Jane Adventures...)

That's actually incredibly reassurring. Thanks!!!

I was sort of hoping that they'd last longer.

Noticed a huge difference in HD and regular when I was in Hilton Head at my parents house. They recently got a 42 inch screen - and you can tell the difference.
The regular looks sort of hazy where they are.

While on my 32 or less inch...I can barely tell the difference, except that HD takes up the entire tv screen while regular only a portion.

Alright, the TARDIS, then? Surely she counts as a character? :-)

Oh, and you really should watch The Wire. Incredible show, and I say that as someone who's usually bored stiff by cop shows.

Oh I love a good meme, I'll take this over to my lj....
I watched Leverage last night too (and tonight is Burn Notice! Yay!)
this is going to take me a while, because I'm a WAY bigger TV slut than you are.

Oh yes. Okay, you got me there. Plus, you can argue that the universe and concept are more or less constant, unlike say Star Trek...which changed.

Oh, and you really should watch The Wire. Incredible show, and I say that as someone who's usually bored stiff by cop shows.

thanks for the rec! (you're the third person, whose taste I trust, that has heavily rec'd that show).

usually bored stiff by copy shows

Hee. Me too. With the exception of the excellent Homicide Life on the Streets and Hill Street Blues, although I did enjoy the BBC series Life on Mars for the pure surrealism.
I think Homicide ruined me for cop shows.

I keep meaning to watch the Wire. My brother raves about it - sent the first season to my parents for Xmas (I got Dr. Horrible). It's three down on my netflix queue. I just have to be in the right mood. (very moody

Yeah..the only problem is I changed my mind about three of the categories after I posted it. I'm such a moody tv watcher.
And I have such diverse (I like to think eclectic but it's just diverse) taste...and it depends entirely on mood.

New Burn Notice tonight? Damn, my DVR is getting crowded. I had to delete a bunch of shows that I hadn't seen and realized I'd never get around to seeing to make room for new ones. (Sanctuary bit the dust, as did Ugly Betty).

And I've become a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory - that comedy makes me laugh pretty much in every episode - a rarity. HIMYM is hit and miss, as is 30 Rock...but Modern Family and Big Bang oddly are hitting the mark. So did Better off Ted last night, although I can see why it got lousey ratings - really not a good show for a recession economy.

Oh I'm so glad you like Big Bang Theory! I also find that I laugh loudly at every episode (which is so good... I love to laugh out loud). I'm afraid I'm not a faithful viewer of HIMYM, it is too hard with both Chuck and House on against it.... There are too many good shows on Monday nights.

Yeah, I've kinda given up on Ugly Betty (sometimes I find a rerun I missed and I'll watch it) and I never even tried Sanctuary....
Burn Notice is up against Project Runway, but the latter is rerun several times so I watch Burn Notice first and then catch Project Runway later...(I think that that is the only 'reality' show I watch).

You know that The Wire is made by the same people who made Homicide, right? It's essentially the same feel, only with a much bigger scope, and without network censorship...

And I used to love Hill Street Blues. I'm afraid to re-watch, though.

I did not know that. (For some reason I thought it was by the same guys who did the Sheild...which is another series I always meant to watch but never got around to it.)

And I used to love Hill Street Blues. I'm afraid to re-watch, though.

Sigh. Me too. Me too. (I haven't seen it since it first aired.) Some tv shows do not survive the test of time.

Be curious to see what I think of Buffy in fifteen years.

The Shield is really good too, though nowhere near the Great American Novel that The Wire is. It's got several Angel writers, and Shaun Ryan (showrunner) learned a thing or two from Joss. Plus, some really good actors. It drags in places, but the s5 finale is one of the best hours of television I've ever seen.

Agreed. I have...sigh, I am taping Chuck/House or HIMYM/House, Big Bang/Gossip Girl and Castle.

It's a good thing I grew bored of Heroes...or that would have been an issue.

I've kinda given up on Ugly Betty (sometimes I find a rerun I missed and I'll watch it) and I never even tried Sanctuary

You didn't miss much with Sanctuary - it's much better than Star-Gate, but a poor man's Torchwood, ie, it makes Torchwood look amazing in comparison. I just don't have time to watch Ugly Betty and whenever I do...I found my attention wandering...for some reason it doesn't hold my interest. No clue why.

Burn Notice is up against Project Runway

Yep - the DVR let's me tape both...or I just grab one at the later time. Love cable and its multiple showings. Now if only the networks would do that.

Project Runway later...(I think that that is the only 'reality' show I watch).

Ditto. With the exception of American Idol.

I seriously need a DVR, when I was staying at some friend's house last fall I could set up to tape things at odd hours and catch them later at my convenience... it was really nice!

And yeah, I tried to continue w/Heroes but I just can't bring myself to care any more.... Ugly Betty is much the same, although I still care about Betty's nephew, Justin.

I haven't really been able to get back into American Idol, I found that more and more they were having finalists who I found boring and not very talented.... But on Project Runway I find even the most odd ball designer to be interesting (they are like art students who are trying to be unique, but trying to please the judges all at the same time, I'm very sympathetic to all of them!).

Should clarify on American Idol - I've never really watched it. I jump in occassionally - when I get curious about something. I jumped in last season because of Adam Lambert - who did a killer rendition of Mad World. He's basically a gay version of Elvis Pressley. Or what a child of Madonna and Elvis would be like if he were gay.

I've considered watching some of the judging this time around to see Neil Patrick Harris and Kristen Chenowerth, but, and a big but here ...my tolerance for people humilating themselves by singing horredously on camera for five minutes, then being ripped apart, is not high. It's like having someone run their nails down a chalkboard. So...I haven't been able to do it.

Idol intrigues and annoys.

Agreed on Project Runway, I like the process and the fashions and their attempts to be creative yet please mainstream judges. I don't like the interviews and the obviously scripted fights. Some more obvious then others. Sigh, unscripted drama, my ass.

DVR changed how I watch tv. I watch less, yet more of what I want to watch or am interested in. No more dumb movie or tv show - because nothing else is on. Now it's oh - I have Modern Family taped from last week, or Wallbender from five months ago. Course the downside is it will not let you keep more than 32 hours worth of tv shows. So you can't just tape an entire season, then watch them. You need a Tivo or two Tivo's for that. And I just don't have the time or money for it. Besides watch enough bloody tv as it is. ;-)

(I watch a lot more than you think I do. I don't talk about 80% of the tv shows I watch. Only the ones, I know others like. Also tend to try just about all of them...with the exception of certain reality shows that uh, no. )

Wow! I don't know when we've ever agreed so completely on a variety of topics! lol
I think I watch American Idol exactly as you do... I really want to see NPH and Kristen Chenoweth as judges because I know they have been in the position of having to perform on stage 8 shows a week (something most 'recording artists' never do now days, instead they lip sync or never perform live hardly at all). I'm even interested to see what Ellen will do as a judge.

And I really agree about Project Runway too, they try to drum up all this fake unscripted drama, without realizing that we are really watching for the wacky clothes and for the fun of judging the designs ourselves at home.

That was my experience w/the DVR (the short time I got to use it) too: I was only spending time watching things that really interested me and not just turning on some random boring show to watch while I ate lunch.... It really seems like a great innovation and I hope I can get one, eventually, when I finally find a place to settle down.
