I think the aphasia may be there primarily to harken back to the beginning when Jin couldn't speak English and Sun could. Now it's reversed. Although, I did read a theory that the aphasia may have something to do with bleed-over from the AU where the AU Sun doesn't know English. Although, that seems a bit complicated for me (though, it's Lost, so I don't dismiss it). Still, it may just be an hommage to back when one or the other couldn't speak English.
