Glee Squee!

If anyone else missed Glee and doesn't want to download or pay for it? You can watch it on hulu for free - and it will allow you to make it large screen and manipulate sound. Or if you just want to watch it or any of the other episodes again?

Just watched it and it was really good. Loved Glee. I have a feeling I'm going to have to buy Glee on DVD. It looks like it may be one of those tv shows I'll want to rewatch. Already re-watching the reruns. What can I say? Sucker for musicals. And good satire. This has both.
Plus a diverse cast and interesting and complex female characters.

While I admittedly didn't appreciate New Directions musical performance as much as earlier ones, not a huge Journey fan, I did love the episode. And I agree that Vocal Adrenaline lacked heart - it's numbers entire focus was on Jesse, his coach/Rachel's mom and his arc, with everyone else as backup. But it did have Bohemian Rapsody which is a favorite -gotta love Freddy Mercury. I remember dancing to that in college or was it later, the years they blur.

This episode was expertly written and performed - with a little something for everyone. The perfect blend of satire and heart. Also the music as in all the other episodes did emphasize theme and character arcs and was deftly chosen for each. Journey - while not amongst my favorites - did fit the group and the arc of the characters - where they started and how they finally came together. It also was a great contrast to the showier, but colder and more narcissitic Bohemian Rhaspody number - emphasizing the difference between "performance for winning an award" and "performance out of heartfelt joy or pure love." The celebrities chose the technical talent or all surface because it best reflected how they see themselves, showing them in the best light, while Sue picked New Directions for it's heart.

Also rather good renditions of To Sir with Love which was from the 1960s film of the same name starring Sydney Poitier. The film is about a black American teacher teaching a bunch of wayward English public school youth.

Here's the summary from wiki: "The film is in a now well-established genre in which an idealistic teacher is confronted with a class of cynical teenagers, disengaged from conventional schooling. The first such film was Blackboard Jungle in 1955 — in which, incidentally, Poitier played a disruptive pupil. The present film makes a departure in that it sets Poitier, a black teacher, in a predominantly white London school. The film touches on racial issues but concentrates on the usual tropes of teenage angst and inspirational leadership. The film portrays a sanitised and fictional Swinging London. Issues of sexual infatuation between a pupil and teacher were rather less sensitive in the 1960s than they were to become in the 21st century, as evidenced by the rather provocative strapline A story as fresh as the girls in their miniskirts."

In the film version - the British pop-singer Lulu (think a young Britney Spears circa 1960) sings the title song, and it has a bit of a sexual connotation to it.

The satirical bits on Olivia Newton John, Josh Groban, and the news anchor - were brilliant. The cult of celebrity...where our worship of entertainers leads to a disturbing narcissism.
It's actually more realistic than you want to know. Too much Fame is toxic to the human animal.
Glee much like Buffy before it - often pokes fun at itself and the world around it.

I absolutely adore Sue Sylvestrie who makes it abundantly clear that while she loves to hate and rank on Will Shuster (and I honestly if I were Sue, I'd love to hate Will too), she equally cares deeply about those kids and would not hurt them for anything. This is one of those rare tv series in which I find myself at the end of the season pretty much liking all the characters and seeing tremendous growth in all them.

Yay for hulu! And for the awesomeness of Glee!
I may have to buy the DVD too... I really enjoyed Fox showing a rerun last night (I would definitely be up for a summer of Glee reruns!).

The finale was immensely squeeful. Massive love for all characters.

I wasn't too sure of the concept when it first started, but I watched mostly for the squee-ness of the musical numbers, which tap into every bit of my secret inner show tunes geek. And seriously, To Sir With Love? The obscure perfection of their song choice continues to amaze.

Like BtVS, Glee is one of those shows that's really come into its own as the season has progressed, and like you said, there's been tremendous growth in all the characters. I'm definitely a convert. :)
