Five Things Fan Meme.
1. Five of your most favorite male fictional characters - only books or tv
2. Five of your most favorite female fictional characters - only books or tv
3. Five villians who are effective and most favorite - books or tv
4. Five tv or book ships - actual ships as in something you would travel in.
5. Five theme or credit music for tv
[Note - should be sci-fantasy, but I broke the rule for the last one, since, I'm sorry but Veronica Mars and MASH rocked.]
1.Name your five MOST favorite male fictional characters - books or television (not movies)
1. John Crichton - Farscape - he may well have amongst the best lead character arcs that I've seen. He starts out as a innocent pacificist, an astronaut, fascinated by space and exploration, dressed in white astronaut togs, evolving over time to a black leather clad, somewhat crazy, fugitive, and tortured hero - with an edge. The acting will blow you away. When I first saw pics of the actor, prior to watching the series, I wondered why do people think this guy is hot - he's so average. What's the big deal? Then I watched the series...and I fell in love.
2. Spike - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the Series -the best supporting character arc that I've seen, goes from villian to hero over the course of five seasons.
3. Lymond - Chronicles of Lymond by Dorothy Dunnett - a devilish hero, with edge. Dunnett rarely puts us in his point of view, we learn about him through others...at times romantic, others increasingly anti-heroic, he is amongst the most complex heroes in literature.
4. Harry Dresden - The Dresden Files - sort of the John Crichton of the Wizarding World. Think Phillip Marlow with a bit of Harry Potter.
5. Doctor Who - from Doctor Who - specially the Tenth Doctor, but am also quite happy with the Eleventh. A madman with a box, a lonely tortured god, a haunted genius with a god complex...
2. Name Five Most Favorite Female Characters - Books and TV not Movies
1. Aeryn Sun - from Farscape - she moves in the opposite direction from John Crichton and has the best female arc in scifi. Starts out as a hard and non-compassionate warrior, who kills without remorse, to a loving, caring woman, yet still a strong warrior.
2. Buffy - from Buffy the Vampire Slayer - a heroine who is tough on the inside, soft on the outside. Quippy. And unpredictable.
3. Donna Noble from Doctor Who - amongst the few older women who do not look like models out of a magazine to grace the world of sci-fi. Smart, funny, and intelligent.
4. Rachel Morgan - from Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan novels - a kickass bounty hunter and witch, who takes no prisoners.
5. Dr. River Song - from Doctor Who, a work in progress, so this could change. But right now, I adore her.
3. Name Your Five most Effective and Scarey Villians from Books or TV, not movies
1. Scorpius from Farscape - a complicated villian, who is never really redeemed so much as explained. He becomes both a physical nemesis and a psychological one for John Crichton - representing Crichton's own darker impulses. The writers managed to take a villian that could have become ineffectual over time and gave him depth, and entwined him with the hero in such a way, that we learned more about both. Also in the second season and fourth - they constructed a love triangel with the villian separating the two lovers, but not in a sexual way.
2. The Mayor from Buffy the Vampire - the perfect metaphor for the series theme about patriarchial power and authority. The father from hell, hilariously portrayed. Like Scorpius above, a lot of credit goes to the actor. This character unlike most villians, had angles, depth, he may well have been the most human of the villians on Buffy and the most real.
3. The Cylons from both Battle Star Galatica version 2.0 and Caprica - possibly the most complex villians ever - since they could, if viewed from another perspective, appear to be heroes.
4. Londo from Babylon Five - a character who starts out as a clown and seemingly ineffectual, and becomes over time a menace - almost destroying a race, certainly enslaving it. Possibly one of the best villian arcs I've seen done.
5. The Shadows - from Babylon Five - What do You Want? They ask...spiderlike shadow creatures, with dark whispery voices...to haunt nightmares.
4. Name Five Most Favorite Ships
1. The Tardis - the phone booth that is bigger on the inside than the outside and defies time and space combined.
2. Moya - a living ship, a leviathan - think a whale in space, which pulls the whole space as an ocean metaphor inside out. No weapons.
3. The Galatica on BSG - a war ship acting as a civilian vessel hunting for earth, and fleeing and fighting all at the same time.
4. The Enterprise - from Star Trek
5. Serenity from the Firefly Series - a hobbled together smuggler craft that reminds one of a dirtier Millienium Falcon from Star Wars.
5. Name Five Most Favorite Theme Music or Credits from TV Shows
1. BattleStar Galatica's operatic score
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer's jaunty rock theme
3. MASH's Suicide is Painless
4. Farscape's alien theme
5. Veronica Mars - alienation song, We Used to Be Friends But We Aren't Anymore
Bonus: Come up with something
Favorite Fairy Tales:
1. The Snow Queen - hero captured by Queen who poisons his mind/heart, heroine goes on an epic journey to save her lost love and friend, and heal him.
2. Rose White and Rose Red - the hero is a bear who was once a prince.
3. Bremen Town Musicians
4. The Pied Piper (not sure this is a fairy tale so much as a legend)
5. Beauty and the Beast (also may be a legend)

You're getting me very curious about farscape lately. I only ever saw to or three random episodes in the german synch, which is of course no way to get into a series.
