You didn't miss anything - the theme is expressed far better in Fault in Our Stars.
Regarding the sound thing and Farscape? You may not be able to get past that unfortunately. I had issues with that - very hard to hear some of the dialogue. No there's no subtitles, annoying that. I think managed to get the close captioning to work though - can't remember how I did it though. I used the tv remote not the DVD remote and somehow it worked. But I haven't been able to figure it out a second time. This happens to me a lot - I'll get something to work but I'll have no idea how I did it, so can't replicate the process.
