I figure that Oz and the others will show up as though they were always there, and Joss and Allie will blame it on Jeanty for "forgetting" to add panels with them in there (which, again, even if that were true, a good editor would have fixed it before it went to print).

Hee. I'm willing to bet you are right. Wouldn't be the first time he did that. Also, was it just me or did the General throwing up, look like Giles? I only know it was the General - because Angeria posted it above. Looked like Giles to me. My problem with Jeanty is I can't tell who is who half the time. Unless they are obvious. Say what you will about Urru - at least that was NEVER a problem.

On the parents bit? You aren't wrong. And can we say Overkill?
Not the subtlest writer on the planet, Whedon. But I think he's just going for the bad parents - because it is easier.

It's interesting that the little we get on Liam's family - is that they really aren't that bad. Liam's a bit of an ass actually. He's bedding the maid and has left to steal, because his father scolded him for bedding the maid.

Spike? William is shown to be a Momma's Boy...although it felt more complicated than that. And I agree - we've no idea what happened to the father or if he has any siblings. Whedon never really tells us. IDW gave his Spike's last name - not Whedon, and I suspect Lynch may give us more background on Spike than Whedon ever will. Yet for some reason fans prefer how Whedon writes Spike?
I don't totally understand this. Granted he's written some amazing Spike bits, but so did Doug Petrie, David Fury, Drew Goddard and Jane Espenson. I rather like Lynch's take on Spike and Angel, which feels more satirical and tongue in cheek than most people realize. At least to me. ;-)

The overkill on the bad parents for everyone - and I'll add to your list. Cordy's Father was indicted for embezzeling or something, ended up in jail and lost everything. At any rate - as a result she is dead broke and can't go to college or get a nice apartment. (We know nothing about Harmony's parents). OZ's family doesn't seem to tell him that his cousin is a werewolf until after he gets bitten. (although that could be an honest mistake). Gunn's family is dead, as far as we know. He and his sister are living on the streets fighting vamps. Anne - has no family to speak of.

I see this as lazy writing. If you need to find an explanation for why a character is messed up? Mommy or Daddy issues. It's simple.
Sort of similar to resurrecting past villains to explore past themes, instead of coming up with new ones.
