I'm not sure how they can make Spike's fault - unless they decide to make the Williams brother's arc canon - then yes, Spike while soulless made the prophecy that the godlike creature controlling LA used to manipulate Angel into creating a higher reality. (One insane plot that destroys our two lead characters, lets marry two insane plots that do!) But I doubt they'll do that, not because Whedon wouldn't necessarily go there - but because he didn't think of it. The only other way they can do it - is make Spike in cohoots with the Master (but we just got Spike's back-story and that wasn't part of it.).
Angel - I don't think can be saved here, regardless of what they do...he's been made to look loathsome. I'm not sure about Buffy - you can actually find a way of redeeming her. In any event - my guess is a tragic ending.
