Of course if we had told them we were going in... he wouldn't have been there. There were definitely factions in support of OBL there (they 'missed' the mansion with 18ft walls and barbed wire... for five years.)
Frankly, it's probably helpful to the Pakastanis in charge that they have the cover of deniability of "It wasn't us! The Americans didn't even tell us."
