It's good to know it's better than elsewhere in the world. The US is clearly better as well - since women can work in male occupations and claim a modicum of power here. The places to avoid appear to be the Middle East, most if not all of Persia, a good portion of Africa, sections of Southeast Asia and India, and sections of Eastern Europe, South America, and Central America. Mexico at the moment isn't really safe for anyone - it's going through drug wars (although that may be getting better.)
But saying all of that? I don't know for certain. What I know is what the media and other people tell me. Which I admittedly have learned to take with a grain of salt. I do tend to avoid areas of civil unrest and where wars are going on.
Not sure any place is purely safe. In the US - there are places that are safer than others. Times Square at night tends to be fairly safe now - because of the crowds. But I'd still be cautious.
