You can't help just a tiny bit sorry for Stringer. You can see from season 1 that he aspires to 'better' things. It's just his idea of what's better isn't the same as most people's.
The poor guy just can't win. He's another example of how a good education doesn't necessarily enable you to get out of your situation particularly when everyone around you has no idea what you are talking about. Very bright guy but surrounded by people who think with their fists.
It's sort of like that famous chess scene. Wallace and Brodie are using chess pieces and chess board to play checkers. D'Angelo comes up and says - what are you doing? Chess is a much better game. Stringer is trying to play Chess, while Avon insists on playing checkers.
