Hee. Been there. I tried watching the Doctor Who with a friend a while back and rapidly gave up. Also had a similar experience with the family.
Buffy might have been a better bet, depending on the episode of course. It tended to have better writing, generally speaking, than Doctor Who. Curious to know which episode of Who it was...not the one with the Vampires or the Pirates, I hope. Or maybe Battle Star Galatica, Caprica, Lost or the X-Files - more mainstream and far more critically acclaimed. Doctor Who, Farscape, Firefly, Dollhouse, and Buffy are pure cult.
At the end, my officemate said casually, "Yeah...I don't think I really like sci-fi."
LOL! After watching one Doctor Who episode??? Where has this boy been? What does he do?? Most scientists seem to like science fiction. Granted Doctor Who isn't hard science fiction...but still.
