It's just because the show changes, as all shows do. Not in a bad way, IMO, or in most people's opinion, people think the show improves quite a bit.
But the case of the week starts to lose importance to the "central story" of the series, and episodes tie more and more into that story.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
