I really enjoyed this episode... and you know it is one that depended 100% on the regular characters (no guest stars, no fancy sets, no action scenes): just some good writing and performances.
I've felt for a while that Rory played by Arthur Darvill is something special: like Alan Tudyk as Wash, he doesn't always have a lot to do (the first season w/him was mostly him as comic relief or victim or both), but he does it with subtlety and believability.
And this week Amelia Jessica knocked my socks off as elderly Amy! Most actors over do the aging thing, and she under-played it with real skill... I think it is about the best performance I've ever seen of a young actor playing someone 40 years older (36 years older, LOL... because that 4 years is important to you at that age!).
This is a story we've seen done a lot (usually badly, there was a truly horrible version w/Deanna Troy aging on ST:NG), it is always the performances that make the difference.
