They aren't willing to earn anything... they don't build suspense or have any mystery at all, they just keeping jumping from one ridiculous horror cliche to another without even stopping to take a breath. It is laughable. On a better show they would have the burned guy lurking for weeks before he told his story, and neighborly Jessica Lange would be much more effective if she seemed nice for a few weeks before they had us suspect her of not being nice.... But they just aren't willing to hold back on anything.
Exactly. They tell us far too much. I know everything in the first hour. There's no mystery. We're told too much. This appears to be a trend right now with several tv series - Terra Nova did the same thing, told me too much. As did Pam Am. Everyone's afraid of being "LOST" - ie. leaving all these mysteries dangling, so instead they go to the opposite extreme and tell me everything.
I know far too much about Jessica Lange's character. I also know too much about the burned man and the house.
No build up of suspense. This episode should have just focused on the rubber man - that was actually built up pretty well. But it got so cluttered with other stories going on at the same time, that it was hard to even notice it. Same with the French Maid bit - which is hilarious.
They did too much. And I kept thinking - okay what happened to the editor? Or producers? The people who reign in these writers? It's almost as if they just kept throwing stuff at a wall to see what stuck.
You're right - the French Maid bit was funny. He's seeing this beautiful woman, and everyone else sees Francis Fisher. LOL! I also oddly found the whole rubber man sex scene amusing - and a bit creepy. But outside of that...
