The Good Wife and...other things...

Currently watching the Ken Burns documentary The Dust Bowl which occurred at the same time as the Great Depression. My grandparents lived through it. And my favorite Steinbeck novel, The Grapes of Wrath...which was later made into a film starring John Carrington (the Daddy of Keith and David Carrington), and Henry Fonda. The worst man-made ecological disaster in US history - or what happens when you push too hard against nature. Destroyed the top soil and it blew away.

Hee - wheat production may well have caused the Dust Bowl. I knew wheat was evil!!! Cattle and bison were better for the land than wheat. Well, it wasn't wheat itself, it was how they farmed and plowed it. They over-did it. Plowed day and night. With plows that tore up the soil and ground. And they over planted. It's the classic case of over-kill. Human beings have a tendency to well go to extremes? We binge on things. Or go overboard. Moderation...is not something we do well for some bizarre reason. And we take our resources and what we have granted, expecting it to last forever...never end. But there's no such thing as forever. Forever may be a word, but as a reality it does not exist.

Will state no one does historical documentaries like Ken Burns...his are actually entertaining and informative, as opposed to one or the other. I'm a pick-but when it comes to documentaries. Most bore me or make me roll my eyes. I admit this.

Prior to that watched The Good Wife - which was not that good this week. When it's good, it's really good, when it's bad, well it's still better than half the other tv shows on tv.

* Now I want to know what happens to Carey. But did they show that in the previews? No. Instead we see Stockard Channing as Alicia's Mom - which is actually great casting. Love Stockard Channing.
Damn, the Nick Santoros storyline is starting to get on my nerves. I know where they are going with it - they are teasing about the danger to Alicia. Alicia is Kalinda's achilees heel and Nick is insanely jealous. Cary's mistake was picking up Alicia's phone - although I think Carey and Kalinda did have a romance once. Except poor Carey doesn't know Nick is Kalinda's hubby, dangerous hubby. Now Nick has beaten up poor Carey in the rain. I like Carey, damn it. Almost hunted down spoilers..

* Case of the week doesn't quite work - all about Lockhardt Gardner going after a judge that went after Will...in a bar, after Kalinda warned Will to back off the judge. Then Amanda Peet's somewhat awkward attorney told them that their client was guilty and it would come out - because their client had visited an Actus Reis social network to find someone to cheat on her hubby with and I think assassinate him? Confusing.

* We also have the annoying sideline on Grace's romantic life and interaction with a guy who is smoking, and cutting class so she can makeout with him. This is the ex-boyfriend of another girl named Grace who committed suicide? Ew. Although the guy is admittedly sort of attractive and she has chemistry with him. But still.

Not a fan of how they write kids on television - it's always awkward. Zach works better than Grace. Grace's stories are always sort of kooky and demeaning to women. Although it does show how differently women are treated from a very young age in society. And of course it's about Peter's election and how the kid's influence the election. Eli's character is getting a bit stale too, too one note. Another character - where less is more.

* Best bits were well any scene with Alicia or Carey in it - although a couple made me squirm.

*Worst bits were any scene with Nick Santoros - which were the scenes that made me squirm. Granted Nick is a realistic version of the "controlling jealous guy" but he's also creepy and makes my skin crawl.

Eh...not a good episode. Looking forward to the next episode with Stockard Channing and the return of Alicia's bro Owen. The Amanda Peet character arc isn't doing a lot for me - don't know why. Feels awkward for some reason.

And not only the overplowing of all that good buffalo grass but then the rabbits and the grasshoppers.

I'm looking forward to watching Part Two today, he really does such a good job with these documentaries.
