Trampled is a good word. A lot happens in that book. Too much. Mockinjay kills off a lot of people - it's very similar to Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows in that regard, although I'd say Collins is more brutal than JK Rowling was. The Hunger Games triology is much darker than the Harry Potter books and far more violent.
