Oct. 6th, 2012 07:54 pm1. Spent most of the day cleaning my apartment. Which it desperately needed. Threw out a bunch of stuff including an old magazine rack that's falling apart. I need to buy new furniture but am procrastinating. The furniture store I loved closed and was replaced with a useless and expensive writer's space entitled the Brooklyn Writer's Club.
2. At the book store there was a book entitled - "This book is full of spiders, don't open." And I thought, well, really not going to now - thank you very much. If you want to scare me off a book, tell me that.
3. Continue to be amused by the plight of the Canadian Maple Syrup Reserve which was stolen and then returned. LOL! Why? Why does Canada need a maple syrup reserve? Too many dry pancakes?
4. Watched Made in Jersey - if you've seen The Good Wife - this comes across as a really cheesy version. It's okay. But very 1980s. Skippable. I unfortunately taped it instead of Fringe this week. Because I can't watch S5 Fringe, until I watch S4 Fringe, which didn't come out on DVD until recently. I'm that far behind. On the fence about continuing. The narrative structure intrigues me, but I'm not in love with or obsessed with the characters. We'll see if I make it through S4.
Mob Doctor is slightly better than Made in Jersey but I don't see it making it past a first season. It doesn't pull you in enough to make it...must see viewing. I forgot to tape it this week. Also forgot to tape The Last Resort. Neither grabbed me. They were okay. Just not...worth making time to watch. I'm busy this year and can only make time to watch so many tv shows. Procedurals tend to bore me generally speaking, my attention wanders. Still haven't tried Elementary yet, which my 70 year old mother is enjoying quite a bit.
5. Almost went to see Looper yesterday. But it was a beautiful day. I spend all week long in a windowless cubicle - except for walks at lunch, occasional meetings, workshops, and site tours. I wanted to wander about outside and mediatively walk, or walk as meditatively as you can manage in a busy city (two pedesterains ran into me, and I almost got run over by a car backing up on a red light - I had the right of way, a fellow pedesterian saved me.) Movies aren't grabbing me lately. The last one I saw in a movie theater I barely remember - it was The Avengers. (Cabin in the Woods and My Week with Marilyn are clearer in my head.) Prefer renting the things on netflix. Or just going to them in Hilton Head with my Mom on the holidays. The appeal of seeing them in NYC is gone.
Although, I did admittedly enjoy watching The Hunger Games on the big screen.

Date: 2012-10-07 12:12 am (UTC)I really don't like the Holmes of Elementary. He talks fast and mumbles. I watched this past week with the closed caption on... He wasn't saying anything very interesting. The tact they've taken with Lucy Lu as Watson is interesting, but if Holmes is so-so, it's not going to fly.

Date: 2012-10-07 12:34 am (UTC)Made in Jersey is worse than Mob Doctor. And Vegas...sigh, worse than Elementary apparently. (Haven't watched it yet either.) This new fall season is looking sort of lame.

Date: 2012-10-07 02:17 pm (UTC)They don't appear to be doing well in the ratings either though. Already read a prediction in TV Guide that Mob Doctor would be amongst the first shows cancelled. Currently my predictions for early cancellations are:
* Mob Doctor
* Made in Jersey
* Partners
And I'll be surprised if Last Resort and Vegas makes it to a second season.
So far, the hits appear to be Elementary (although I couldn't make it through the pilot last night, but I was also tired. May try again.)
Revolution, Go On, and possibly the New Normal.
