Oh, don't get me wrong - a little of Nolan goes a long way. A show full of Nolan's would grate on my nerves.
The problem with Declan and Jack and their story thread is it is poorly constructed and written. It lacks depth. Jack is unfortunately a bit one-dimensional. His wife, E-Amanda is actually more interesting and far better written. She's not rich.
Daniel has more complexity than Jack - who has all the complexity and character depth of his dead golden retriever.
You can make these characters interesting. Jack actually had potential, he is just caught in a series of poorly written plot arcs. OR as Jessica Rabbit would say: "I'm not boring, I'm just written that way."
