Finished watching the last five episodes of Elementary, including the Season finale. And, that was surprisingly good. And just when I was about to throw in the towel. The problem with tv shows like Elementary is the case of week is dreadfully dull, often a retread of an old Columbo mystery (let's face it - Sherlock! does a better job with cases of the week), and you know who the murderer is within the first fifteen minutes (hint? It's always the first suspect or the person you pulls them into the case - ie. the least likely person you'd suspect. I wish TV writers would stop with this ploy - sooner or later, we do catch on. But once you get away from the standard case of the week approach and focus on the characters of Sherlock, Watson, and this season, Mycroft Holmes - the story takes off.

Rhys Davis, who plays Mycroft, is a great actor. He gets across nuance with little more than his eyes. He acts with his eyes and just pulls you in.

The last five episodes dealt with what Mycroft has been up to, and the consequences for Sherlock and Joan Watson and how it upturns their lives. The character moments between the three are quite riveting. And by the end of it - the series slants in a whole new direction.

Well done. Now I have to see next season and dang-it there's too many tv shows on at that time slot. How dare they make me choose?
