OUAT...

Have mixed feelings about Emma's arc this season on OUAT. But other than that, and well the raiding of the Disney animation store for the costumes, enjoying this season's OUAT.
Also, Regina seems to be learning from past mistakes (yay Henry), Rumple not so much...

* So, Ingrid accidentally froze Helga to death. But Gerda screwed up - not listening to her first. Albeit understandably. I do like how OUAT does villains - there's always an interesting back story, and they tend to be rather complicated.

Ingrid's own fear did her in. Sort of similar to how Regina's fears did her in, or Rumple's. But in different ways.

Ingrid is afraid of the power she has, while both Regina and Rumple sought power and now fear losing it.

Speaking of Regina - how much you want to bet that the person Rumple has to destroy or remove power from is Regina, in order to get free of Storybrook? Because Regina is the source of the curse.

Ingrid has projected her fears onto Emma - who didn't fear her powers previously. And didn't have any until she entered Storybrook. Of course Mary Margaret isn't helping.
Her understandable obsession with the new baby...is sort of salt in Emma's wounds, since Emma gave up Henry, in part because Mary Margaret gave up Emma.

There's a nice echo of Elsa's parents in MM and David. (I miss Snow and Charming.)

* The bit with finding the author of the book, and the idea of "happy endings not being awarded to villains" is further examined and in an interesting way.

Ingrid tells Rumple that he wants what every good villain wants - "everything".
They are never satisfied. Which is why they are never happy, and there is no happy ending.

See? Here's the thing about happiness - we all have it. It's not a matter of what we have that makes us happy, but a matter of attitude, of choice. Being grateful for what you have, happy with the life you have, and not constantly looking out there for something else. Rumple has a business, a wife, and time with his grandson...yet he's miserable and wants more, always more. Regina has Henry's love, Emma's offer of friendship, and Robin's love with some issues, yet she has no happy ending?
She's focusing too much on what she doesn't have. Happiness is elusive - because they want what will always lie outside their grasp. Sort of like the fox and the grapes in that old parable.

* Emma...is afraid of trusting herself and her choices. Somewhere along the way she's lost faith in herself and others. Which doesn't totally work for me. Because she was extremely self-assured in prior seasons. Now, she's suddenly insecure? Why? This seems off. I get that it's her powers...and her inability to control them. But, her reaction seems a tad extreme, considering her powers saved various people in the past.
I don't know - her arc isn't working for me this season.

They aren't going the Hans Christian Anderson route - so much as the Frozen route - where those with powers perceive themselves as dangers and become outcasts, a more modern take on the fairy tale. The empowered female feels like Kai, an outcast, banished. Her magic is clearly dangerous and she's a monster and a danger. But magic is shown to be regulated by emotion.

It may be that I prefer Emma skeptical, smart, and tough.

And I really don't want to see Emma give up her powers again.

Did like Mary Margaret realizing that she and David had screwed up where Emma was concerned. That they'd failed her as parents again. And needed to find a way to make things right.

* Robin/Regina aren't working for me. I needed that relationship to be built a bit more. The romantic relationships in this show seem to happen a bit too quickly.

Overall an enjoyable episode...if a bit uneven in places.

Saw The Good Wife right afterwards. Eh, I liked last week's episode better. This one didn't quite work for me.

So sad what happened with Helga. I don't know why she froze and crumbled so fast, though. Unlike Elsa, Ingrid didn't get any time at all to save her sister. Seems unfair..

I don't think Rumple will be going after Regina, though, because she only cast the curse the first time. The current curse was cast by the Charmings. Also, the promo for the next episode suggests that Emma is indeed the one whose power he wants to take. I'm not sure why the writers are doing this again, since they *just* did it at the end of the last season. But I think Rumple will end up regretting his plan, big time. In his zeal to be all-powerful, he may end up getting his own power sucked out if he isn't careful. It would be good karma for him.
