OUAT..."Smashed Mirror"

Saw Once Upon a Time last night - which really resonated for me in places...so overall a good episode.
And I thought they were redeeming Rumple last year, they appeared to have at least a little? Guess not...he seems to have slid into the irredeemable category again.
I rather liked the Emma/Elsa discussion - where Elsa conveys to Emma that it isn't enough for Henry or her loved ones to support or believe in her, she needs to believe in herself, to truly love and support herself, until she does...her magic will be out of control. She needs to embrace it.
While Regina appears to be on her way towards redemption, they really aren't redeeming Rumplestilskin, are they? I thought they'd redeemed him just a little last year? I still think Henry might do for Rumple what he did for Regina...either that or maybe, Belle will finally wake up and have to redeem herself for enabling him?
I did however like his conversation with Emma - which I'd read a writer's take on the script two days before the episode aired. From the writer's perspective, Emma sees herself as a villain, like Rumple, she identifies with him, because of her choices - but Rumple in direct contrast sees Emma as a hero...who will always do what's best for everyone else, who chooses the safety of others over herself, while he, is a villain, who chooses power and his own needs first.
It hit upon the theme of happy endings - in another way. Both through Rumple/Emma, Snow Queen/Rumple, and Mary Margaret/ Regina...in that the universe tends to give you what your throw at it. You reap what you sow. It's not that villains don't deserve a happy ending, so much as they choose not to have one. You can't have happiness at the cost of another, or at another's expense. If you do, it won't last...sooner or later the consequences will catch up to you. You have to own your choices. Regina chose revenge and mindless grief over a new love with Robin, out of fear. Years later, she gets a second chance, but there are complications. But it doesn't mean it can't happen, as MM states, there's always hope. You just have to work at it. My happiness with David didn't happen overnight.
And as Ingrid states to Rumple - you are like all villains, you want happiness at another's expense, you want it all your way. He is happy - he has Belle, he has power, he has his grandson, but he isn't satisfied. He wants more - and he's willing to throw away what he has to get it.
Rather liked the scenes between Regina and MM. They are building towards the Smashed Mirror bit though - with everyone turning against one another, except for the three with the yellow ribbons. Too many people are getting along. Although Rumple may be immune to the spell.
Wonder whose power Rumple plans on sucking into that hat, now that Elsa saved Emma from it? Regina? Snow Queen? Elsa? I'm willing to bet it's the Snow Queen, two birds, one stone. Plus, Regina isn't powerful enough.
Hook...I'm not that worried about, since, there's no way they are killing him off - he's too much of a fan favorite. Plus the fans still haven't forgiven them for killing off Sheriff Graheam. Although I do feel for Emma...she does not have much luck with men, does she? The whole crushing the heart bit and using it to control the guy she loves? Been there done that already with Graeham/The Huntsman. Now she gets to repeat it with Rumple and Hook, lovely. I'm not so sure we can redeem Rumple after these acts...if I was Emma, I'd have troubles forgiving him.
Curious to see how they'll get out of it. The one series I can't quite predict is OUAT. The writers always surprise me.
Wish I was more into the Robin/Regina romance - but it felt rushed. Not built well.
I think they have too many story-threads, and that may be part of the problem.
And the R/R romance doesn't quite meld with the other threads...it sort of stands off by itself.
Well, now we know what happened to Anna. Elsa, you aren't getting Anna back. Not unless you can make a trip to Arendale and unfreeze her.
