Woo-hoo! We got Belle's Hissy Fit. Yay!

Granted not quite to the degree that I hoped (yelling, screaming, histronics), but then that would have been out of character. But good results all the same.

* I must admit to enjoying Regina this season. And it's official, I'm an Emma:Regina (platonic!) shipper (platonic is a ":" not a "/"). Also, have slowly become an Emma/Hook shipper and a Regina/Robin shipper - that kiss was hot.

I'm enjoying Henry's relationship with both women - and how the writers have shown that the mother/son or mother/daughter relationship is stronger than father/son, father/daughter. Women do better in this series than men for some reason.

* Apparently Rumplestilskin isn't being redeemed any time soon? Although it does make sense, he can't let go of his need for power. He tells Belle that power isn't bad. (Well, yes, this is true Rumple - but you always use it to further your own ends regardless of who you hurt in the process. Didn't your experiences with Daddy, Cora or Wicked for that matter teach you anything? Apparently not or the wrong things.

Now he's decided to track down three of his old nemesises in the world without magic - in order to track the author of the story down and get them to write villains a happy ending.

Meanwhile Emma, Regina and Henry are sort of doing the same thing for Regina.

So...is the author of the book, the unseen Sorcerer from Fantasia?? Appears to be.
The books were found in his house.

* Belle found out about Rumple in an unexpected and rather interesting way. Well done writers. I knew they were headed in that direction ...they were building up to it, and he was so smugly pleased with himself for thoroughly duping her. But I thought someone would tell her - or she'd watch him do something. Instead they had Henry uncover one of his magical devices - that she remembered that Rumple used to find someone's weakness or the thing they loved the most. So she used it to determine what Rumple loved. (Apparently that mirror had given Belle a few doubts?) And it lead her to the dagger. Nice twist.

It also syncs well with Regina's storyline - where Robin informs Regina that he chose her over Marian. And Regina justifies his love for her - when she convinces him to do the right thing and save Marian's life - by leaving Storybrook with Marian and his son. The only way the Snow Queen's spell on Marian can be broken is if Marian leaves Storybrook, and once she does, she can't return.

In both cases it is about making choices. Interesting that Rumple tells Regina that the only way she can get happiness is to take it, like he did. And he explains to her that he hasn't changed, just evolved, being held captive for a year by Wicked Zelena sort of had something to do with that. In short, old Rumple was redeemed. New Rumple is back to his old tricks. And like the Snow Queen - can't achieve true happiness, because he wants it all, easily, without making any sacrifices or giving up anything.
He wants his cake and eat it too. Regina, in contrast, most likely still has a chance with Robin - she has various people who want to help her. I don't think Rumple will ever have that chance with Belle.

And I loved Belle's speech to him and how she used the dagger to stop him. She manipulated him. "I used to see a man inside a beast, but now, all I can see is a beast - that's all that remains. You will always choose power over me. I wanted to be chosen."

Marian said the same thing to Robin, "I don't want to be an obligation - I want to be chosen, I want to come first." Rather liked that. Reminded me of Katherine and David in S1.

* Loved Emma being the one to return Hook's heart to his chest. I guess he can't do it, because no powers? Nice scene.

Hook: I think if you do it gently -
Emma shoves it in.
Hook: Ouch.
Emma: Well I thought if I just did it fast like -
Hook just kisses her hard.

The mid-season finals of this show are well done. They manage to wrap up the current story, and yet leave one dangling loose end to start the next one. The next story is clearly going to be about the "Storybook" and an examination of what it means to have a happy ending or rather an exploration of what happy endings are and have they happen. It will also be exploration of writing stories or what it means to write a story.

I'm glad she seized power/metaphorically and literally. Her idea of de powering is good but... Why does everyone think the boundary is permanent? If it's snow queens curse and the snow queen is dead what makes anyone think it can't be counteracted? (clearly it will be. Rumple is patient. Desperate. And no doubt pissed. Dangerous combo

And if we're getting more Dalmation puppies this'll be difficult to watch because my dog is always convinced HD tv dogs are real and she starts jumping up and down barking at the screen.

Eh, I doubt we'll get that many Dalmation puppies - they are difficult to work with and sort of expensive (you need animal trainers on the set).
I think they showed up as props for Cruella Du Ville. Although they are awfully cute.

Agreed on Belle and Rumple. I was happy to see that she seized the power and took control of the situation. Although - she probably should have killed him. Rumplestilskin isn't the sort of villain that you merely banish...like that's worked well in the past? Have they learned nothing from what happened with both the Snow Queen and Zelena (who were also banished at various points?) The writers certainly like to bring back pissed off villains who got banished.

I can see why she didn't - because in order to kill Rumple, you have to shove the dagger in his chest, which results in well you becoming the dark one. Not something Belle would remotely want. Or, I suppose they could have shoved him into the Wizard's Hat... but the writers like Rumple too much as does the audience...if they got rid of him, there would go half the audience..

Yes, a desperate, frustrated, and pissed off Rumplestilskin is a deadly combination. Also, ironically, it was never his magic that made him dangerous but his cleverness and the fact that he's been around doing nasty things and corrupting folks for about 400 some years. IF you consider all the nasty things he did just to be reunited with his son, I can only imagine what he'd do...in this situation. Not an enemy I'd want.

Hmm...wonder what they'll do with Belle now? Will they finally develop the character? Also, I thought Maleficiant was still chained up in the Library basement? Is he going to break her out? If so - Regina may have a problem, for Mal is one pissed off fairy.
