1. As seen in various posts on my flist, just in case you haven't seen it yet and it affects you:
Someone scrapped A03 and posted quite a few works onto ebooks tree. Even if you think you're obscure as writers go, if you're on AO3, go follow the instructions from here to look yourself up to see if you're included: http://besinaao3.tumblr.com/post/116303502520/ebooks-tree-com-update-and-getting-your-works.
I'm not affected, because a)I never put my stuff on Ao3, b)no one else did, and c)my fanfic is only available on lj and teaattheford, I've never posted it elsewhere (most people don't know I wrote any. And it's going to stay that way.)
But if you are? Check it out. As an aside from a former copyright specialist/legal professional - this is wrong on sooo many levels. It infringes on US, UK, and DMCA copyright law. Not only on the fanfic writer's copyright, but also on the original creators copyright. What you guys should do is notify the original copyright holders and sit back and see what happens. Bigger lawyer guns. I doubt they'd come after you - because you weren't writing for money and just sharing via a fansite, which hello, they have to know about. But I can understand the desire to be cautious.
2. Dang it, The Diabolical Miss Hyde is just 1.99 on Amazon. This is why I have over 200 books on my kindle that I have not read.
Friend: I don't understand how you can buy that many books in advance?
ME: Because I'm compulsive when it comes to buying books, and well I find out that they are on sale via smartbitches web site, for next to nothing I might add - I snatch them up. (I got Ocean at the End of the Lane for $1.99 doing this.)
Seriously if you aren't a book hoarder or compulsive about buying books or buy books to cheer yourself up...you probably won't understand this. Only a true book hoarder would understand.
I now have three I want to buy: The Goblin Emperor, Diabolical Miss Hyde (dang smart bitches for reminding me of it), The Martian...no wait make that four...Ancillary Justice. I need to stop doing this.
3. Funny bit found via Facebook, and yes true of every romance novel that I've ever read:
What I Learned About Heterosexual Female Desire from Decades of Reading (mostly fanfiction)"
I could write a similar post about Heterosexual Male Desire from Decades of Reading (albeit not mostly fanfiction) and Television/Movie watching. Although it would admittedly be a much more truncated list.
